The primary purpose of this position is to work with line crews under the direction of a Journeyman Lineman in general labor and move into a Lineman Apprenticeship when a position is available.

Accountabilities

  1. Support the Districts mission to serve our customers and foster a positive workplace by personally choosing behavior aligned with our values and ethical code.
  2. Responsible for completing assigned work in a safe efficient manner that is in conformance with all applicable regulations by helping to stock trucks and working with line equipment and tools assigned to the line crew.
  3. Contribute to the construction of all phases of overhead and underground line work by learning all phases of District electrical construction standards and practices; operating instructions; and how to accurately read and interpret construction drawings.
  4. Complete other duties as assigned to meet team department and organizational goals.
Additional Apprentice Accountabilities:
  1. Responsible for completing assigned work in a safe efficient manner that is in conformance with all applicable regulations by using safety equipment such as wearing personal protective equipment and understanding the Accident Prevention Manual.
  2. Responsible for construction of all phases of overhead and underground line work by exhibiting and understanding of all phased of District electrical standards practices and operating instructions; and accurately reading and interpreting construction drawings.
  3. Ensure district system reliability by repairing maintaining and troubleshooting all overhead and underground transmission and distribution power lines and associated equipment.
  4. Contribute to serving customer needs by operating all line equipment used in construction maintenance and removal of overhead and underground power lines.
  5. Responsible for supporting system reliability by performing maintenance construction and switching for both distribution and transmission voltages.
  6. Responsible for meeting the Apprenticeship Standards by meeting the qualification of the position and passing the Journeyman exam in accordance with the Districts Apprenticeship Standards.

Minimum Qualifications Experience and Certifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED
  • Ability to successfully pass a pole climbing skill test
  • Must possess and maintain a Washington State Class A CDL and associated Medical Examiners Certification or obtain within 12 months of entry into position
  • Must possess and maintain flagging/traffic control certifications and valid First Aid and CPR certification cards or obtain within 12 months of entry into position
Kennewick Location:
  • Primary residence within 20 miles of Kennewick Headquarters
Preferred:
  • Prefer certification of successful completion at a Lineman college or climbing school
  • Prefer 1 year of experience in general Construction or related field
  • Prefer experience with GIS mapping system
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Basic computer skills or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Ability to climb power poles
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Prefer experience with GIS mapping systems and hot-stick use
  • Attention to detail

  • Attendance:Consistent need to attend work at the job site or work location. Frequent or constant need for punctuality.
  • Physical Effort:The job has regular periods during which continuous physical exertion is required such as walking standing stooping climbing lifting pushing pulling material or equipment which is heavy or awkward up to 75 pounds occasionally up to 125 (assistance is available for lifting in excess of 75 pounds).
  • Environment:Usually in an outdoor environment with regular exposure to extreme weather conditions.
  • Hazards:There is frequent exposure to hazards or risk of injury which are unpredictable or uncertain and which result in risk or personal injury.
  • Sensory Attention:Typically requires regular use of one or more senses of high intensity and long duration including color vision.
  • Job Pressure/Deadline Orientation:Under regular pressure to meet deadlines including occasional high-pressure situations; must occasionally deal with unpleasant issues related to people or situations.
