Line Technician

This position opens September 25 2026 and closes Monday October 26 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST.

The Eugene Water & Electric Board is currently seeking Journey-level Line Technicians to work as a member of a crew to construct install repair troubleshoot and maintain electric power systems transmission distribution overhead underground and assist underground network crews as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Repair or replace defective high and low voltage conductors insulators equipment and related hardware.
• Install/replace overhead and pad mount transformers and primary switches.
• Install/replace poles structures and towers.
• Transfer energized and de-energized overhead conductors equipment and guys from damaged or decaying facilities to new facilities.
• String and splice wire for overhead distribution and transmission systems with conductor sizes up to and including 795 kcm.
• Install and terminate underground distribution cable sizes up to and including 1000 kcm with the use of underground pulling equipment.
• Trim trees near energized wires in emergency situations.
• Train assist and mentor Line Technician Apprentices and contribute to monthly progress reports.

WHAT YOULL BRING

• Ability to climb poles and structures as needed to complete work.
• Exceptional understanding of principles of electricity basic math wiring and connections and the ability to apply and teach this knowledge.
• Experience with various hand battery and electric tools and equipment like bucket trucks digger derricks hot sticks attachments grips and hoists as well as underground cable test equipment.
• Strong interpersonal skills to work directly with other line technicians apprentices and coworkers from other departments.
• Knowledge of utility work rules laws and regulations including NESC OSHA 1910.269 and Oregon OSHA and other codes concerning utility and construction operation.

Work Schedule: 4-10s Monday Thursday 6:30AM- 5:00PM. Automated call out system to call for emergency response and storm damage restoration.

Location: This position is based inEugene Oregon. The selected candidate must live in the state of Oregon and maintain residence within 45 minutes of our facility located at 4200 Roosevelt Blvd. Eugene OR 97402. Out-of-area candidates may be eligible for a relocation reimbursement.

Type and frequency of personal contact required (general public customers organizations and EWEB employees): Daily contact with EWEB employees and general public.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The starting salary for this position is $70.35. Please note that this wage is rounded to the penny pending implementation of a bargained wage increase taking effect in April 2026.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Experience: A minimum of three years as an Apprentice Line Technician including hot stick experience and utilizing hot stick equipment.

Education:Certificate of completion of a three-year Line Technician Apprentice course or training program that is approved by EWEB and includes hot stick training. West coast training programs preferred.

Valid driver license: Yes Class A CDL

Professional license or registration: Certificate of Completion from an approved Line Tech Apprenticeship

Post-offer drug test: Yes

Apprenticeship or other education/training required as a condition of employment progression or advancement: Must obtain a First Aid/CPR Card within 12 months of hire.
