Licensed Practical Nurse Unit Sec. 4 North Med Surg

Full-time day position (7pm-7am) LPN/Unit Secretary on our Ortho/Med Surg/Peds Unit.

Under direction provides direct nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process performs technical nursing functions and upholds the standard of practice of a professional nurse in caring for infant through geriatric patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provides basic nursing care under the direction of the Registered Nurse.

Utilizes the nursing process as the basis for nursing care.

Performs nursing functions applying professional skills.

Documents and maintains date on patients record.

Maintains a safe environment.

Applies basic teaching / learning concepts to patient education.

Provides for life support.

Acts as a patient advocate.

Cooperates as a member of the nursing unit department and overall hospital team.

Participates in performance improvement.

Delegates and / or supervises aspects of care to team members and reviews completion.

Performs related work as required.

Facilitates admission discharge and transfer of patients to various units and / or other institutions.

Maintains the chart and all necessary forms and helps to maintain chart availability to physicians by keeping them in proper location.

Transcribes physician orders.

Communicates pertinent data to appropriate parties.

Maintains patient confidentiality.

Conducts herself/himself effectively in stressful situations.

Approaches situations with distressed patients families and visitors in a calm professional manner.

Minimum Qualifications

Degree from accredited school of Nursing

Licensed as Practical Nurse

CPR (BLS) (ACLS & PALS preferred)

Education in IV Therapy
