POSITION: Licensed Practical Nurse

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will perform duties for students with special health care needs in and outside of the classroom. The LPN will provide primary and emergency health care for the student and nursing services on transportation (i.e. community trips/field trips/to and from school transportation). This includes direct and indirect nursing care health maintenance teaching counseling guidance and collaborative planning as supervised by the Director of Nursing. The LPN will support students personal care needs which may include but are not limited to activities of daily living (ADLs) such as communication toileting feeding transferring self-care and assistance with mobility including lifting as well as perform any medical treatments and administer medication as ordered. Must demonstrate strong communication skills a positive and caring attitude and must remain flexible and adaptable in order to meet students and school needs. This LPN may be reassigned as needed including to a different school site if their primary assignment(s) is absent.

When not providing nursing carethe LPN will also assist with education needs in the classroom. The LPN will implement behavior management plans assist with crisis management plans participate in classroom planning meetings or other organizational meetings regarding the student(s) as well as professional development as determined by the principal and/or special education department and Director of Nursing. The Director of Nursing and/or Principal may assign other related duties as needed.

Physical Demands:

Physically capable of carrying out the daily responsibilities of the classroom including (but not limited to): consistently attending working and standing for long periods of time transferring students into and out of various mobility or other equipment lifting up to 50 pounds working with students on the floor moving quickly when needed in response to student behavior and participating in physical interventions if necessary to keep the student or others in the environment safe.



REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Licensed Practical Nurse in MA

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED: Two years of relevant experience in Pediatrics or Community Health or in a school-based setting

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Basic Life Support (BLS) & First Aid certification
  2. Valid drivers license (Class D) and ability to commute between sites as necessary - this will not require transportation of the student(s) in a personal vehicle.
  3. Ability to accompany student(s) on transportation to and from school outside of school hours -for additional compensation consistent with the terms and conditions of employment in the AEA Unit D collective bargaining agreement.




RATE OF PAY/BENEFITS

The hourly rate of pay will approximately $38.00 per hour in accordance with the AEA Unit D collective bargaining agreement. Available benefits include health insurance dental insurance life insurance and other benefits offered to benefit-eligible employees in the Arlington Public Schools.
