Licensed Practical Nurse

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma or equivalent and completion of a one-year vocational program in practical nursing.
• Valid Florida Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) License.
• Valid Adult and Child First Aid/CPR/AED certificate issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associates degree from an accredited institution.
• One (1) year of experience working with disabled children.

Relevant work experience or education may be substituted to satisfy minimum qualifications.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Clear and concise oral and written communication skills; organizational and management skills.
• Knowledge of pertinent regulations policies and procedures for the functional area of assignment.
• Knowledge of HIPAA Public Records Sunshine Law FERPA and other laws/regulations related to student and employee privacy public information and records retention.
• Knowledge of and experience with industry-standard equipment materials practices computers and applications.
• Ability to professionally and effectively respond to customer needs and requests for service or assistance.
• Ability to administer First Aid/CPR/AED as needed for illness injury or life-threatening emergencies per certification training guidelines.

• Under the direction of the school nurse perform tracheotomy care gastrostomy feeding other ostomy management and other nursing functions according to written procedures and doctors orders.
• Take and record a students temperature pulse respirations blood pressure height and weight.
• Administer medication according to F.S. 1006.062 and Lee County School Board guidelines.
• Administer First Aid/CPR/AED as needed for illness injury or life-threatening emergencies per certification training guidelines.
• Care for a student experiencing a seizure.
• Document procedures on the appropriate forms and assist in the maintenance and filing of records.
• Assist in maintaining a clean and orderly clinic.
• Assist classroom teachers with health care of students.
• Conduct health screening procedures such as vision dental lice and scoliosis screenings.
• Report to the school nurse any unusual observations or symptoms of a student.
• Assist the school nurse in promoting and maintaining the health of students and preventing illness by activities such as preparing and dispensing weekly sodium fluoride mouth rinse and promoting cleanliness and infection control by using and teaching proper handwashing and disinfection techniques.
• Perform Medicaid administrative claims reimbursable activities as directed in accordance with Chapter 3 of the federally approved School District Administrative Claiming (SDAC) Guide.
