Job Summary

Plumber Facilities & Engineering

Join a team that keeps critical hospital infrastructure operating safely and efficiently. Reporting to the Plumbing Supervisor you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of acid waste systems closed-loop water treatment systems and a wide range of plumbing infrastructure including water fire protection sewerage and medical gas systems. This role also partners with vendors and supports regulatory compliance across the facility.

Schedule Requirements:
May be required to work weekends or rotating shifts.
May be required to participate in an on-call rotation and carry a pager.

What Youll Do:

- Operate maintain and repair acid waste systems closed-loop chemical treatment systems and associated equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance testing troubleshooting and repairs throughout the facility.
- Maintain water sanitary sewerage and medical gas systems and related auxiliary equipment.
- Collect samples perform testing and report violations in accordance with MWRA compliance requirements.
- Respond to MWRA violations and follow established sampling protocols and guidelines.
- Serve as an approved MWRA sampler.
- Maintain accurate logs records daily worksheets preventive maintenance reports and daily pH readings.
- Read and interpret blueprints and piping diagrams to identify piping locations system labeling and proper system tie-ins.
- Conduct inspections and surveys of plumbing and utility systems.
- Prepare material lists order supplies and maintain stock and spare-parts inventory.
- Participate in departmental planning activities and assist in developing solutions to plumbing and system-related challenges.
- Maintain a safe clean work environment and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Respond to service requests from all areas of the hospital.
- Coordinate emergency response efforts for plumbing-related issues when needed.
- Communicate effectively with staff and management regarding process water and plumbing systems.
- Coordinate and maintain productive relationships with vendors and contractors.
- Maintain required testing records and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable plumbing codes and standards.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Qualifications

Required Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent or Trade/Technical/Vocational Diploma required.

Experience in lieu of a degree: No

Required License

  • Master Plumber State License required

Required Experience

  • Formal technical plumbing training beyond the high school level.

  • Strong knowledge of plumbing systems supplies equipment and industry best practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints piping diagrams and technical drawings.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to evaluate systems and implement effective solutions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to clearly explain plumbing issues to staff and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently while following established policies and procedures.
  • Sound judgment to recognize when issues require supervisory guidance or escalation.
  • Basic math reading and writing skills typically acquired through completion of high school.
  • Physical ability to lift more than 30 pounds (less than 15% of the time) and safely work on ladders.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
