Job Summary

NEEDED: License Vocational/Practical Nurses

LOCATION: 501 Capital Circle N.E. Tallahassee FL 32301

SCHEDULE: 8 hours per day 5 days per week 40 Hours per week Monday Friday between 6:00 AM 2:30 PM or 7:30 AM 4:00 PM

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have graduated from an accredited Vocational/Practical Nursing school or program.
  • Shall maintain current licensure as a Vocational/Practical Nurse in the State of Florida.
  • Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified in accordance with the American Heart Association Basic Life Support.
  • Must provide evidence verification of current credentials/license continuing education for maintaining a license a copy of a current CPR card

JOB DUTIES:

  • Provide direct patient care services in accordance with legal ethical and institutional standards through the evaluation of patients and therapeutic treatment as ordered by Health Services clinical staff.
  • Perform nursing duties within the scope of the current licensure.
  • Administer medications as prescribed i.e. by mouth intradermally subcutaneously or intramuscularly to include insulin.
  • Assist with distribution of medications at pill line.
  • Monitor and evaluate the response to therapy.
  • Perform skin testing.
  • Perform venipuncture for the purpose of obtaining laboratory specimens.
  • Record and document patient care activities on appropriate records such as health history.
  • Record diagnostic testing i.e. venipuncture for laboratory studies visual acuity testing EKGs (per instructions from mid-level practitioners or physicians)
  • Process labs work to include filing daily.
  • Maintain accurate logs of all reports in accordance with Bureau of Prisons and JACHO policy Screen laboratory tests/results for normal/abnormal lad values and notify the physician or physicians.
  • Ensure all sharps are secured accounted for stored and disposed of according to institutional and national policy.
  • Assist the mid-level practitioners and physicians in the management and oversight of daily scheduling. Assist the Optometrist with vision screening and exams.
  • Possess knowledge of treatment of chronic health problems i.e. hypertension diabetes and asthma.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Adhere to infection control policies and procedures.
  • Ability and skill to operate EKG and laboratory equipment.
  • Knowledge of mental health disorders and must have the ability to screen for gross mood changes.
  • Ability to provide basic first aid prevention care and guidance in treating a variety of common illnesses/injuries.
  • Properly triage sick-call complaints and refer to RN or APP as appropriate.
  • Assist with intake screening and exit summaries for inmate transfers.
  • Perform duties as required but accept only those nursing assignments that are commensurate with his/her educational preparation training experience and nursing licensure laws.
