Job Summary

About the Position



Provides professional and administrative assistance to a City Councilmember serving a designated City ward. Manages constituent services to include handling citizen requests addressing ward issues researching information and assisting with policy development. Coordinates delegated work plans performs policy and work flow analysis and implements Councilmember decisions. Manages public relations initiatives including working with individual constituents and groups regarding complex community issues. Organizes the Councilmembers initiatives coordinates efforts with other City staff and leads the work assignments of designated staff. The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

  • Demonstrated experience engaging communities building relationships and mobilizing stakeholders around shared goals. At least three years of experience in political campaigns community organizing advocacy public engagement or a closely related field is strongly preferred.
  • Effectively communicates across race class and culture & other aspects of difference.
  • Excellent written verbal and electronic communication skills and ability to communicate complex information clearly to a range of audiences inside and outside of City Hall.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with demonstrated ability to handle multiple assignments or projects on a variety of timelines attentive to details and responsive to deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues stakeholders and members of the public.
  • Must have interest in and commitment to community-based issues and problem-solving.

Position Requirements

Requirements may be met by one of the following:

  • Bachelors Degree in Public Administration Urban Studies Planning or a related field and two years of professional experience in public administration policy analysis or community development.
  • Masters Degree in Public Administration Urban Studies Planning or a related field.
  • A combination of six years of college level education and progressively responsible professional experience in public administration policy analysis or community development.
