Duties and Responsibilities

1. Teach undergraduate/graduate level courses according to HWST department approved syllabi such as HWST 107: Hawaii: Center of the Pacific; HWST 222: Intro to Hawaiian Fiberarts; HWST 281: Hookele I: Hawaiian Astronomy and HWST 281L: Hookele I: Laboratory; HWST 282: Hookele II: Hawaiian Navigation and HWST 282L: Hookele II: Laboratory; HWST 325: Advanced Hawaiian Printmaking; HWST 351: Mahiai Kalo I: Kalo Cultivation; HWST 352: Mahiai Kalo II: Advanced Kalo Cultivation; HWST 353 Malama Loko Ia; HWST 372: Oli Makawalu HWST 207 Hawaiian Perspectives in Ahupuas and other Hawaiian Studies courses as needed.
2. Other related duties including preparing course syllabus grading and maintaining weekly office hours.

Minimum Qualifications

1. B.A. in a field of study closely allied to Hawaiian culture history language and/or arts;
2. Translation proficiency in the Hawaiian language;
3. Evidence of ability to teach effectively and to direct group discussions;
4. Teaching experience at the university level or equivalent.

Desirable Qualifications

1. M.A and/or Ph.D. in a field of study closely allied to Hawaiian culture history language and/or arts;
2. Sufficient fluency in the Hawaiian language in order to teach in Hawaiian;
3. Completed training to teach HWST 107 course;
4. Strong oral and written communication skills;
