The Division of Natural Sciences at Hamline University invites applications for a Lecturer of Biology. The appointment is set to begin fall 2026 with the possibility of renewal for additional one-year appointments starting fall 2027.

The Biology major curriculum provides students with a broad foundation in biology through a two-course core: BIOL 1510 which is taught in the fall semester and focuses on biology up to the cellular level and BIOL 1520 which is taught in the spring semester and introduces students to ecology and evolutionary biology. Teaching responsibilities for this position will include teaching at least one section of these two introductory courses (BIOL 1510 and BIOL 1520: Integrated Concepts of Biology I and II) and their associated labs with potential for other courses in the candidates area of expertise in the future. These courses are foundational experiences for biology and other natural science students. They are designed to build basic skill competencies and familiarize students with the scientific method. As such the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate broad expertise in biology and in facilitating active learning in both classroom and lab settings.

Biology faculty are strongly collaborative and committed to providing high impact experiences for our students. Hamline biology courses incorporate team-based active learning course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs) and faculty-mentored summer research. Our emphasis on student-centered evidence-based teaching has earned the Hamline University Biology Program gold-level recognition by the Partnership for Undergraduate Life Sciences Education (PULSE). A Ph.D. at time of appointment (August 2026) is preferred; appropriate areas include biological sciences learning sciences science education and biology education research. Applicants are expected to have at least a masters level degree in the Biological Sciences. Experience teaching AI literacy and incorporating AI tools is also preferred.
