Position Summary:

Washburn Universitys Department of Music is seeking applications for a one-year temporary position in Applied Violin beginning August 1 2026. This position is a nine-month full-time appointment. The selected candidate would be eligible to apply for the permanent position.

Essential Functions:
Fulfill teaching expectations associated with non-tenure track appointment. Teach 12-hours per semester (either in-person or online according to departmental needs) or equivalent full workload as outlined in the faculty handbook. Teaching will include applied violin and viola.
Fulfill service expectations associated with non-tenure track appointment by engaging in service activities in the department university and profession.
Recruit students and maintain public profile as a performer and teacher.
Serve as faculty advisor for the Fetter String Quartet.
Teach additional music courses as needed by the department that fit the candidates qualifications.
Perform additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.

Non-Essential Functions:

Required Qualifications:
Doctorate in Violin; ABD and masters degree applicants will be considered.
Demonstrated dedication to developing inclusive teaching practices that engage all learners.
Official educational transcripts required at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching and recruiting students at the university level.
Experience in teaching applied viola and violin.
Experience in teaching and working with youth string programs.
2-years of public-school teaching experience.
