Academic Program Specialist III

The Learning Specialist provides individualized academic support and learning strategy coaching for medical physician assistant and graduate students at the College of Medicine (COM). This role supports students development of effective study test-taking and self-regulated learning skills; collaborates on the coordination of academic accommodations; and contributes to the planning and implementation of academic support programs and initiatives. Additionally this role will design and deliver educational workshops assist with the development of new support programs/initiatives and serve as a College of Medicine liaison to the UF Disability Resource Center.

About This Role:

Administration and Program Management

• Serve as a COM liaison to the UF Disability Resource Center and other testing agencies providing guidance to students on the accommodations request process and coordinate implementation of approved academic accommodations.
• Coordinate accommodations for COM students registered with UFs Disability Resource Center including testing arrangements.
• Identify assess and monitor students experiencing academic difficulty across all phases of medical PA and graduate training in collaboration with the medical education leadership.
• Provide individualized academic support and learning strategy coaching to COM students with specific academic challenges (e.g. course exam failures low clerkship/clinical exam performance extended or unsuccessful board exam preparation).
• Provide ongoing progress monitoring to support study and test taking strategy skill development.

Academic Support Coordination

• Manage student-led review sessions by implementing identified curricular trends and scheduling small-group workshops.
• Guide the tutoring programs ensuring tutor training quality assurance alignment with curricular goals and schedule and track appointments and usage.
• Monitor tutoring expenditures and payroll activity to ensure tutors are paid timely and accurately.

Program Development and Educational Outreach

• Design and deliver presentations addressing learning strategies clinical reasoning time and stress management test-taking and resilience during pivotal stages in medical education.
• Implement the tutor training program to support tutors providing individual tutoring support.
• Participate in institutional committees and work groups to support student learning support best practices for adult learners and advise stakeholders of student trends.

$70000-$730000 annually

Masters degree and three years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Masters degree or certificates in Education Psychology or Special Education.
• Three years of experience as an Exceptional Student Educator or Special Education teacher in a school setting.
• Two years of experience working with graduate-level students or professional health science students.
• Proficiency in the use of standardized assessments for identifying adult learning disabilities and mood/thought disorders and in translating assessment findings into targeted academic support and learning interventions.
• Experience with modern assistive technologies that can help students with organization time management note-taking and other factors affecting student academic performance.
• Knowledge of how socioeconomic status mental/physical health support systems and identities may affect students medical education and learning experiences.
