Learning Activities Assistant Nemours Estate (part-time)

Nemours is seeking a part-time casual Learning Activities Assistant!

Nemours Estate is a 225-acre public garden and historic home dating back to 1910. Its benefactor Alfred I. duPont also established the Nemours Childrens Hospital Delaware which shares our campus and our a historic property and public gardens Nemours Estate is perhaps the only such location worldwide which shares a 501c3 with a pediatric hospital. As such an institution we are uniquely placed to explore the intersections of health and wellbeing and arts history and horticulture.

The Learning Activities Assistant is a member of the Learning & Wellbeing Programs team the team responsible for developing and delivering quality fun developmentallymeaningful educational experiences for Nemours patients and families as well as for Nemours Estates youngest goal of Nemours Estate Learning Programs is to develop and run programs which benefit childrens education but also help improve their mental and physical health and overall wellbeing.

Under the direction of the Learning & Wellbeing Programs Supervisor and with guidance from the Learning Programs Coordinator the Learning Activities Assistant will assist with the facilitation of learning programs and activities for Nemours Estate which will be held within the Nemours Childrens Hospital DE with local community partners and onsite at Nemours Estate.

This position will be scheduled approximately 15 hours weekly. Wednesday/Tuesday OR Wednesday/Thursday shifts 8 hours per day. Position is through December.

Responsibilities:

1. Share Nemours Estate and its mission with the community especially with patients and families.
2. Assist with the delivery of engaging educational and fun programs in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings.
3. Work with the Learning & Wellbeing Programs Supervisor and the Learning Programs Coordinator to facilitate adaptive and responsive models of museum education especially within the Nemours Childrens Hospital DE.
4. Maintain high standards of programmatic delivery including a commitment to building rich subject matter knowledge.
5. Assist with programmatic setup organization monitoring supply inventory cleanup and material storage.
6. Responsible for the delivery of regular Learning Programs offerings under the guidance of the Learning Programs Coordinator including:
   1. Nemours Estate activity carts (inpatient bedside and outpatient waiting rooms).
   2. Can Grow Garden programs
   3. Hospital school programs
   4. Virtual programs
   5. Assist with in-hospital holidays/events
   6. Third Thursday Estate activities
   7. Other programs as needed
7. Responsible for maintaining essential health and safety standards in all programs as required by Nemours Childrens Health.
8. Serve visitors from diverse populations with developmentally meaningful programming in a courteous and professional manner.
9. Strong ability to work independently. Must possess sound judgement and ability to work in sometimes stressful situations working with a wide variety of personalities.
10. Strong ability to work collaboratively especially with hospital staff.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma required
• Bachelor Degree in History Museum Studies Horticulture Arts Education Special Education or Child Development is preferred
• Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children required.
• Background or interest in history horticulture or the arts preferred.
• Experience working at a historic property museum or public gardens is a plus.
• Spanish language skills are preferred.
• Experience working with the disabled is preferred.
