Job Summary
The Maintenance Leadman is responsible for overseeing daily mechanic and maintenance activities while also engaging in hands-on troubleshooting repairs preventive maintenance fabrication and support for mining equipment pumps mobile equipment and plant machinery. This role collaborates closely with the Maintenance Supervisor Maintenance Planner production teams field personnel and loadout teams to implement the weekly maintenance plan complete work orders ensure safe and reliable operations and provide guidance to mechanics and maintenance rolling stock staff. The Maintenance Leadman must work safely both independently and as part of a team demonstrating strong mechanical knowledge welding skills leadership abilities and the flexibility to respond to callouts overtime weekends or other unusual circumstances.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and assign daily maintenance work activities as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor and provide guidance to mechanics and maintenance personnel.
- Work closely with the Maintenance Supervisor and Maintenance Planner to execute the weekly maintenance plan and ensure parts tools materials and equipment are available for assigned jobs.
- Collect complete document and turn in work orders as required.
- Troubleshoot and repair mining equipment mobile equipment process equipment pumps conveyor belts loadout equipment and stationary equipment.
- Determine the type extent and seriousness of repairs needed; estimate time required to complete modifications or repairs; and obtain correct parts from the warehouse.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance activities including greasing oil changes inspections torque checks and service work to maximize equipment reliability and lifecycle.
- Install change rebuild or repair motors chains gearboxes differentials suspension components pumps hydraulic systems hoses cylinders bearings seals packing and related equipment.
- Interpret maintenance manuals parts booklets work orders blueprints schematics hydraulic/mechanical prints mechanical drawings and diagrams.
- Assist mechanics and maintenance personnel with troubleshooting repairs and job planning as needed.
- Perform cutting welding grinding rigging and fabrication work including structural steel steel pipelines and poly pipelines.
- Operate forklift front-end loader mobile equipment and other heavy equipment as required.
- Conduct pre-shift inspections and determine whether work areas and equipment are safe before work begins.
- Monitor critical spare parts tools parts inventory and supplies; notify appropriate personnel when parts or supplies are needed.
- Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating work performed irregularities job status and continuing needs.
- Prepare collect and communicate maintenance information reports and updates as required.
- Support scheduled preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
- Partner with production field and loadout teams to maximize plant operation productivity equipment reliability and safe execution of work.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment by complying with procedures rules regulations OSHA requirements and Intrepid safety policies.
- Provide input to the Maintenance Supervisor regarding employee performance training needs recognition and work quality observations.
- Assist with training coaching and developing maintenance employees on assigned tasks and safe work practices.
- Observe all safety rules and policies and perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma/GED
- Valid Drivers License
- Previous leadership leadman or demonstrated crew guidance experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of industrial maintenance mechanical mobile equipment or related maintenance experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong mechanical aptitude attention to detail and work ethic.
- Strong safety awareness and ability to model safe work practices for others.
- Able to lift push or pull heavy objects greater than 30 lbs. and up to 50 lbs. or more as required.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced industrial environment.
- Must be available for callouts and have reliable transportation.
- Must be willing to work overtime weekends and schedule changes as needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- OSHA 10HR training.
- Crane and rigging certification.
- OSHA forklift certification.
- Proficient in stick and MIG welding.
- At least three years of experience repairing heavy equipment hydraulics 12/24 volt electrical systems general automotive systems or similar equipment.
- General industrial maintenance skills including but not limited to millwright pipefitter outside machinist and/or welder experience.
- Experience maintaining conveyor belts centrifugal pumps compactors roll crushers cage mills valves bearings rotary dryers screening machines pumps seals and packing.
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize work support crew coordination and help keep mechanic and maintenance activities moving safely and efficiently.
- Ability to communicate job activities hazards irregularities and continuing needs to supervisors maintenance staff and operations teams.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to weld cut grind rig fabricate and work with steel and poly pipelines.
- Ability to problem solve learn processes quickly and stay calm in a stressful environment.
- Ability to read and understand technical manuals prints diagrams schematics and blueprints.
- General computer skills including Microsoft Office and maintenance-related systems used to document work and support equipment diagnosis.
- Proficient in standard calculations such as proportions percentages area circumference volume and algebra.
- Knowledge of general automotive systems including but not limited to brakes tie rods ball joints springs u-joints and related components.
- Ability to proactively recognize and mitigate job hazards.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in a non-temperature-controlled industrial environment and may include adverse weather conditions loud sounds distracting noise levels confined spaces high places uneven surfaces and exposure to mobile and stationary equipment. - A 40-hour-a-week work schedule will be required with callouts as part of the job. Overtime weekends and schedule changes may be required based on business needs.
