Job Summary

Introduction

This recruitment is being given to fill 1 part-time positions in the San Joaquin General Hospital and to establish an eligible referral pool to fill future part-time opportunities. TYPICAL DUTIES
  • Schedules employees or detainees; assigns and supervises the work of laundry staff engaged in sorting washing drying finishing and distributing laundry.
  • Orients new employees or detainees; trains new employees or detainees in the operation of the washers drying tumbler spreader and flat work ironer steam tunnel small piece folder and other laundry equipment.
  • Ensures the orderly flow of items through the laundry process by making minor equipment adjustments and repairs and adjusting personnel to meet daily needs.
  • Monitors employee or detainee performance; prepares and signs employee or detainee evaluations; recommends disciplinary action.
  • Acts for management level laundry staff as designated.
  • Confers with appropriate personnel concerning ordering of supplies new equipment and replacement linens.
  • May operate laundry vehicle to pick up and deliver a hospital linen from various locations throughout the County including but not limited to: clinics physicians offices and hospitals.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Two years of paid work experience in a commercial industrial or institutional laundry including six months washer experience.

License: Possession of valid California drivers license.
KNOWLEDGE
Methods materials and equipment used in large scale laundry operations; practices involved in operating a linen supply service for a large institution; textiles and colored fabric and their reaction to detergents bleaches water temperatures and machine washing.

ABILITY
Understand and follow written instructions; assign train supervise and evaluate the work of others; operate a wide variety of commercial laundry equipment; keep and maintain simple records; establish and maintain effective working relations with others; lift and move heavy loads.

Hours Restrictions: Please be advised that SEIU bargaining unit employees are limited to 1559 hours on payroll each calendar year.

Selection Procedures

Applicants for part-time and temporary recruitments who meet the minimum qualifications are either referred to the hiring department for further selection or they may be required to take a written examination. If a written examination is given the top candidates may be referred to the hiring department for further selection.

Testing Accommodation: Candidates who require testing accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) must call Human Resources Division at prior to the examination date.

Physical Exam: Some classifications require physical examinations. Final appointment cannot be made until the eligible has passed the physical examination. The County pays for physical examinations administered in its medical facilities.

Pre-employment Drug Screening Exam: Some classifications require a new employee successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen as a condition of employment. Final appointment cannot be made until the eligible has passed the drug screen. The County pays for the initial drug screen.

Employment of Relatives: Applicants who are relatives of employees in a department within the 3rd degree of relationship (parent child grandparent grandchild or sibling) either by blood or marriage may not be appointed promoted transferred into or within the department when:

  • They are related to the Appointing Authority or

  • The employment would result in one of them supervising the work of the other

Department Heads may establish additional limitations on the hiring of relatives by departmental rule.
