Lead Heavy Diesel Tech / Working Foreman
Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Heavy Diesel Technician / Working Foreman to join our team.

Pay: $45 - $55 per hour based on experience

This position is responsible for leading shop operations while also working hands-on as a heavy diesel technician. The ideal candidate has strong diagnostic and repair skills leadership ability and experience working on heavy-duty trucks tow trucks wreckers trailers diesel engines hydraulics electrical systems brakes suspension driveline and related equipment.

This is not just a management position. We are looking for someone who can lead by example support other technicians help keep jobs moving maintain quality standards and make sure repairs are completed correctly and efficiently.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Diagnose repair and maintain heavy-duty diesel trucks tow trucks wreckers trailers and company equipment.
  • Lead and support diesel technicians in daily shop operations.
  • Assign prioritize and monitor repair jobs to help keep workflow moving.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics on diesel engines electrical systems air brakes hydraulic systems suspension steering driveline and emissions systems.
  • Inspect vehicles and equipment to determine needed repairs and maintenance.
  • Assist technicians with troubleshooting difficult repairs.
  • Ensure all work is completed to company quality and safety standards.
  • Communicate repair status parts needs and job progress with management.
  • Help maintain shop productivity organization and accountability.
  • Review completed work to ensure repairs are performed correctly.
  • Train mentor and support technicians as needed.
  • Maintain accurate repair documentation and service records.
  • Operate diagnostic equipment scan tools lifts welding equipment and shop tools safely.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance programs for fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Identify recurring issues and recommend better repair processes.
  • Help maintain a clean safe and professional shop environment.
  • Follow all safety procedures when working around heavy equipment vehicles tools and chemicals.

Qualifications

  • Heavy diesel repair experience required.
  • Previous lead technician foreman or shop leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong diagnostic skills with diesel engines electrical systems hydraulics air brakes suspension and driveline repairs.
  • Experience working on heavy-duty trucks tow trucks wreckers trailers or commercial fleet vehicles preferred.
  • Ability to lead train and support other technicians.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to stay organized in a fast-paced shop environment.
  • Valid drivers license required.
  • CDL preferred but not required.
  • Must have your own basic tools.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physical tasks including standing bending climbing kneeling and working around heavy equipment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with technicians management drivers and parts vendors.
  • Must be dependable professional and able to take ownership of shop workflow.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with tow trucks heavy-duty wreckers rollbacks rotators trailers and specialty equipment.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems PTOs winches underlifts wheel lifts and recovery equipment.
  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
  • ASE certifications are a plus.
  • CDL is a plus.
  • Experience using diagnostic software and scan tools.
  • Ability to improve shop processes and help increase technician efficiency.
