JOB DESCRIPTION: The Lead CDI (Clinical Documentation integrity) Specialist works under the direction of the Assistant Director of Education and Analytics or Manager of CDI. He/she performs all requirements of the CDI Specialist Job addition this position is responsible for facilitating and coordinating the overall quality and completeness of clinical documentation through the application of evidence-based knowledge analysis in-depth review interpretation identification of opportunities communication and consistent follow-up and evaluation of concurrent and retrospective (as required) medical record documentation reviews. The Lead CDS interacts primarily with but not limited to CDI staff physicians and health information coding staff to capture appropriate reimbursement and clinical severity for the level of service rendered to patients with a focus on DRG-based payers. This role is vital in supporting the validity and accuracy of ICD-10 coding MS-DRG APR-DRG (SOI ROM) PSI POA HAC assignment mortality O/E ratios in compliance with all Federal and State coding regulations and reporting requirements. The Emory Hospitals include the inpatient Emory Johns Creek Hospital Emory Saint Josephs Hospital Emory University Hospital Emory University Hospital Midtown Emory University Orthopedic and Spine Hospital Emory Hillandale Hospital and Emory Decatur Hospital. This responsibility includes participation in strategy development education implementation planning execution to ensure department and organizational goals are met. This individual will mentor CDI staff and facilitate appropriate clinical documentation to ensure that the overall quality level of services severity of illness and acuity of care are accurately reflected in a complete medical record. Develops and maintains strong working relationships with other leaders in the CDI HIM Department and Hospital. Demonstrates excellence in CDI. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership. Assists with training and orientation of new employees. Provides support to staff and serves as resource. Assists with data gathering and analysis of reports. Monitors CDI compliance through quality audits and data analysis. Trouble shoots CDIS and other computer problems. Demonstrates Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions. Participates in development and maintenance of CDI policies/guidelines in accordance with AHIMA Practice Briefs Official coding Guidelines ACDIS Standards and Coding Clinic. Assists with/provides educational topics for program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or US or international School of Medicine. For RNs must have a valid active unencumbered Nursing license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board. Must have a minimum of 3 years experience in a leadership capacity 5 years CDI Cardiovascular or Intensive Care nursing experience. CCDS or CDIP required within six months of hire date or when eligible to sit for exam. Education and experience may be considered in lieu of a RN license for highly qualified candidates (physicians).
