Summary

The lead cardiac technician serves as the team point of contact and expert resource for questions throughout the day. Conducts a wide range of non-invasive cardiac tests under direct supervision for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

Job Description

Oversees the device department scheduling and employee evaluation input due to being a direct resource for electrocardiogram (EKG) employees. Responsible for the support of EKG/Holter Monitor systems and assists in coordinating the expansion of EKG services and plays a key role in overseeing device monitoring software workflows. Maintains communication with management. Handles assisting with ordering of supplies for EKG/Holter monitors. Assists in attending cardiac meetings related to EKG testing keeps current on all device workflow processes and educates staff. Precepts new device staff into the department. Checks calibrates and maintains cardiology equipment to ensure proper operation and accurate test results. Provides care and counseling for cardiac patients to ensure their comfort and safety during device monitor process. Alerts nurses or physicians of critical values abnormalities or changes in patient EKG. Obtains and records patient information and medical histories; interprets EKG results and generates factual written reports.

Qualifications

High school diploma or its equivalent is required.

Minimum of three years experience as a cardiac technician of basic cardiac anatomy and physiology. Working knowledge of basic and intermediate life threatening cardiac rhythms special equipment used in cardiac testing computers and medical terminology.

Must meet one of the following criteria dependent on facility needs as it may vary by needs:1. Possess Certified Cardiographic2. Associates degree in a health science field3. Three years experience as a cardiac technician4. Obtains Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) certification Cardiac Rhythm Monitoring certification (CRAT) or National Telemetry Certification (National Telemetry Association) within one year into position. The department will determine which certification is appropriate per the department workflows.5. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification is preferred.
