The pay range for Lieutenant is $122874.14 - $196598.08 annually
When setting pay we consider applicants experience and County tenure in relation to other employees performing a similar level of work. Pay in this job profile will be set competitively taking into account the compensation offerings to positions supervised recognizing that overtime and premium pay are part of those total compensation packages.

Duties of a Law Enforcement Lieutenant include but are not limited to the following:
Work collaboratively to create a positive supportive and safe work environment for all members through inclusive communication and team work; actively promote a workplace environment that is respectful of living and working in a multicultural society by modeling the agencys values of diversity equity and inclusion;
Foster positive community relationships including attending and/or organizing community engagement opportunities; represent the Sheriffs Office in an exemplary manner;
Plan organize and manage law enforcement operations of an assigned section unit or project within the Sheriffs Office including day to day operational considerations;
Develop administer and monitor a complex budget; provide budgetary recommendations and/or adjustments;
Develop review and implement comprehensive policy and standard operating procedures;
Direct and approve through subordinate supervisor(s) the planning prioritizing assigning supervising training and reviewing the work of a diverse workforce;
Demonstrate intergovernmental awareness; promote positive relationships and lead initiatives with various county professional affiliation(s) and interest groups; act as a representative on committees interagency collaborations and special projects and initiatives;
Mentor and coach members by providing professional growth opportunities and guiding career development;
Work with minimal supervision and be available for after-hours phone calls; provide after-hours and on-duty command response during critical incidents or any incident as directed.
To Qualify
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be a current Multnomah County Sheriffs Office Law Enforcement Sergeant who has successfully completed probation as a MCSO Sergeant by June 30 2026.
Within one year of the date of appointment to lieutenant you must have 90 college education credits from an accredited college/university to meet the education requirement for the DPSST Management Certificate.
Failure to obtain the 90 college education credits from an accredited college/university within one year of the date of appointment will result in demotion.

Duty time may not be used and no overtime compensation is authorized to participate in any portion of the examination process including but not limited to activities such as exam preparation appointments with HR Unit staff at the Multnomah Building and participation in the examinations.
