Job Description
Reporting to the Associate Director of the Virginia Tech Language and Culture Institute (VTLCI) the part-time Academic Advisor provides academic advising and student support for students enrolled in the Intensive English Program (IEP) and AdvantageVT (AVT) pathway program. The Academic Advisor assists students with registration monitors academic progress and attendance conducts advising and transition meetings and works collaboratively with LCI faculty and staff and Virginia Tech undergraduate admissions to support student success and progression. May teach a class if enrollment warrants.
Required Qualifications
Masters degree in Education (preference given to TESOL Applied Linguistics Linguistics or very closely related field with a TESOL certificate -minimum 18 credit hours) or Bachelors degree with extensive experience
Considerable experience with English language learners at a university level
Experience in academic advising
Experience serving as an academic coordinator or assistant
Demonstrated proficiency in data collection analysis and survey instruments
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects
Preferred Qualifications
Experience advising international students in a university setting
Experience working with university admissions registration and academic progression processes
Knowledge of the U.S. higher education system
Teaching experience at the university level
Experience with Banner Navigate Canvas and similar systems
