Landscape Worker III

Performs activities related to improving and maintaining University grounds including installation maintenance and care of landscape plants and turfs. Landscape work is usually done outdoors in all kinds of weather. The work may be repetitive and physically demanding requiring frequent bending kneeling lifting and shoveling.

• Cleans work area; keeps roll off dumpsters and piled materials areas clean. Cleans and maintains tools and equipment. Monitors equipment operation checks gauges; listens for abnormal sounds; corrects or reports problems.
• Inspects job site; determines appropriate method of doing project.
  Maintains 100 tree arboretum and their signs. Uses chainsaw to cut up large fallen limbs and haul away debris.
• Operates heavy equipment to accomplish assigned task.
• Performs general landscape project work such as mulching laying sod planting shrubs and other plants. Waters and maintains newly planted trees shrubs and lawns as for the mixture and application of insecticides herbicides and fungicides used in the control of insects weeds and diseases on plants and hardscapes on university properties. Train Landscape employees to properly mix and use insecticides herbicides and fungicides. Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as specified for each chemical used.
• Transports equipment and any needed materials or supplies to and from job site.

• High School diploma or GED
• 3 years of appropriate experience.
• Must have a valid commercial drivers license and pesticide certification (or be able to obtain certification within 6 months of employment).

Working Conditions

• While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel.
• The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop kneel or crouch; and talk or hear.
• The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and push or pull up to 250 pounds with appropriate tools or moving equipment.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.
• While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and humid conditions chemicals fumes and airborne particles outdoor spaces and is required to climb ladders to access equipment in high and/or precarious places.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
