The Lactation Consultant provides clinical assessment care education and support to breastfeeding mothers in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This role collaborates closely with nursing and medical staff to ensure optimal care for both the breastfeeding mother and infant.

1. Breastfeeding Assessment & Support
   Evaluate breastfeeding effectiveness and provide appropriate interventions and education to prevent or address feeding challenges.

2. Support for Non-Breastfeeding Infants
   Assist mothers of infants unable to breastfeed in establishing and maintaining milk supply including proper storage and handling of expressed milk.

3. Collaborative Care
   Work with primary care providers and healthcare teams to implement feeding interventions tailored to the medical needs of the infant and/or mother.

4. Education & Training
   Deliver breastfeeding education to patients hospital staff and community partners. Participate in ongoing training and outreach efforts.

5. Post-Discharge Support
   Offer continued breastfeeding support after discharge through phone consultations in-person follow-ups and coordination with outpatient care providers.

Provides clinical assessment care support and education to breastfeeding mothers within both the inpatient and outpatient setting and collaborate with nursing and medical staff regarding the care of the breastfeeding mother and baby.

1. Assesses the adequacy of breastfeeding and provides interventions and education as necessary for correction and/or prevention of feeding problems for breastfeeding babies and mothers.

2. Assists mothers of infants who cannot breastfeed to establish and maintain a milk supply and store their milk appropriately.

3. Collaborates with the infants or mothers primary care provider and hospital or clinic staff as needed to implement feeding interventions to meet the infants and/or mothers medical needs.

4. Provides education and training regarding breastfeeding to patients hospital staff and regional areas.

5. Provides post discharge support of breastfeeding for patients through telephone consultation clinical visits and consultation with the primary care provider of the mother or infant.

Education Requirements:

• Associates degree

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

• Certified Lactation Consultant by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBCLE).
• BLS certification as of date of hire.

Professional Experience Requirements:

• Six (6) months of experience in breastfeeding and lactation support is required.
