Job Title: Laboratory Technician
Pay Rate: 17/hr.

JOB OBJECTIVE:
The Laboratory Technician is the primary person responsible for the testing of inbound tankersoutbound tankers and batches for all analytical tests. Additionally the Laboratory Technician will fill in for the fresh fruit technicians during absences and days off. The Laboratory Technician reports to the QA/QC Laboratory Manager. TheLaboratory Technician may work any shift.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Perform routine analytical tests per specification: citric acid brix ratio pulp defects color and sensory.
- Calibrate all laboratory equipment at the beginning of each shift.
- Ensure proper use and care of analytical instruments and equipment.
- Pull samples from product lines tanks and silos as directed.
- Perform an audit of the process during the production run.
- Perform pre-operational audits as required including Charm swabs.
- Verify product quality and integrity by checking the production line during the filling of each lot (looking specifically at package and case integrity label and code date accuracy weights temperatures and tray/screen inspections for signs of any foreign material).
- Take aseptic samples from Tankers for microbiological testing and evaluate tankers for cleanliness.
- Perform HACCP monitoring activities including filter checks metal detector monitoring magnet checksallergen verifications by production line requirements.
- Monitor the line and equipment for food safety-related items such as good manufacturing practices and proper sanitation practices.
- Properly document all data and provide timely/effective communication to production supervisorsmanagement production employees and other Quality Assurance Technicians and Supervisors.
- Report on non-standard conditions to the Lead or Lab Manager immediately.
- Follow all safety rules and practices including the wearing of all essential personal protective equipment.
- Follow all personal hygiene and food safety practices.
- Assist in training technicians as necessary.
- Assist in problem-solving events to determine the root cause and establish preventive measures.
- Act professionally toward co-workers customers vendors or other visitors to the plant.
- Demonstrate reliable attendance consistent punctuality and a positive attitude.
- Lab operations include but are not limited to cleanup supply inventory documentation file and recordkeeping and communications between lab operations and management personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned and required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Two (2) years experience in a food processing environment.
- High school graduates prefer college-level courses to work in chemistry or other sciences or an associates Microsoft Office Products: Word Excel Outlook PowerPoint and large ERP applications.
- Ability to work successfully in a team-involvement environment is a must.
- Ability to operate laboratory equipment such as an auto-refractometer and a centrifuge.
- A proven track record of exceptional organizational planning and overall time management skills in addition toexceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain accurate and legible documentation.
Work Environment:
- The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. A 40-hour work week will be considered a normal work week. Extra hours off hours and extra workdays may be required to accommodate changing production schedules new projects product development and other special situations. This may also include shift work and changes required therein.
