Job Summary
Job Summary: The Division of Natural and Behavioral Sciences seeks a motivated detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to support laboratory instruction and safety operations across biology forensic biology microbiology and general and organic chemistry laboratories. The successful candidate will work closely with the Lab Supervisor and other faculty to prepare laboratory activities maintain inventories and equipment ensure compliance with safety regulations and support day-to-day laboratory operations. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with laboratory experience who are passionate about science education laboratory safety and supporting student success. This is a part-time 20 hour per week position. Although the regular work hours will be mostly on weekdays occasional weekend hours may be needed in case of an emergency.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare laboratory materials reagents equipment and supplies for biology microbiology general chemistry and organic chemistry courses as directed by faculty and the Lab Supervisor.
- Clean organize and properly store laboratory equipment chemicals and supplies following laboratory activities.
- Maintain accurate laboratory inventories and assist with ordering receiving tracking and cataloging supplies and reagents.
- Prioritize tasks and assignments under the direction of the Lab Supervisor and obtain approval before undertaking duties outside normal responsibilities.
- Conduct routine inspections of laboratory facilities and hazardous material storage areas to ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations hygiene practices and institutional policies.
- Assist in the proper handling storage and disposal of biological and chemical hazardous waste in accordance with federal state and local regulations.
- Support laboratory safety programs by maintaining safety documentation hazardous materials inventories Safety Data Sheets (SDS) standard operating procedures (SOPs) signage labels and related records.
- Assist faculty and Campus Safety personnel in identifying evaluating and mitigating laboratory hazards.
- Provide support during federal state and local safety inspections and audits.
- Participate in professional development opportunities when available including safety training instrumentation training laboratory skills training and attend workshops webinars and conferences as recommended by the Lab Supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Lab Supervisor.
Required Qualifications and Expectations:
- Bachelors degree in Life Sciences Biomedical Sciences Chemistry Biochemistry or a closely related scientific discipline.
- A minimum of 2 years of working experience in teaching research chemical or industrial labs is required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory procedures equipment and safety practices.
- Strong organizational communication and computer skills.
- Ability to read interpret and apply laboratory procedures technical documents safety guidelines and governmental regulations.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with faculty staff and students with respect and professionalism.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods while performing laboratory preparation and maintenance tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Training or experience in occupational safety hazard communication handling of biological and chemical hazardous materials and waste management.
- OSHA certification or comparable training in laboratory safety and hazardous materials management.
- Experience maintaining laboratory inventories and safety documentation.

Compensation: $23.00/hour
This is the hourly ratewe reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of posting. An employees pay within the salary range will be based on several factors including but not limited to relevant education qualifications qualifications certifications experience skills performance and organizational needs.
