As a Senior Technician this position oversees the processing of specimens for bacterial analysis performs autoclave duties extracts DNA from samples and prepares validation reports for laboratory support procedures as well as training staff in preanalytical duties. This position is responsible for performing a variety of advanced medical or analytical laboratory support activities for the Microbiology Section. Work is performed through the application of a body of knowledge related to advanced laboratory methods using laboratory materials and equipment to support the diagnosis of human disease through bacteriological examination of isolates from blood sputum feces urine tissues and environmental samples associated with human disease. This position is also responsible for preparation inventory and ordering of reagents and media in support of testing. The performance of these duties requires knowledge of sterile techniques safe laboratory practices latest molecular testing theories and/or methods autoclave sterilization of waste and media preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment and analytical methods.

Required Education and Experience

Education
Possession of an associate degree in engineering technology the physical or biological sciences clinical laboratory science medical laboratory science or a related field.

Experience
Three years of experience equivalent to a Laboratory Technician including one year equivalent to a Laboratory Technician E10.

Selected candidate must meet CLIA-88 requirements as Testing Personnel for laboratory technicians.
Alternate Education and Experience

Laboratory Technician E10
Possession of a bachelors degree or higher with 16 semester (24 term) credits in job specific or related course work may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.

Additional Requirements and Information

Some positions within this class series are assigned job duties that may require possession of a current valid drivers license to operate a designated state vehicle.

NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge skills and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.


The preferred and appointed candidate will be subject to pre-employment random post-accident reasonable suspicion return-to-duty and follow-up drug and/or alcohol testing.



Position Location/Remote Office: The physical location of this position is 3350 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Lansing MI. Based on operational needs and within established limits remote work and alternate or hybrid work schedule requests for this position may be considered. Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.



Employees will be provided computers to perform state work. Phones may also be provided for necessary communications. If working remotely employees will be responsible for providing other components of a remote office at their own expense including:

  • A secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions.
  • A high-speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
  • Suitable lighting furniture and utilities.
