Job Summary:

The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for the instructional laboratories in the department of Civil Engineering including facilities and day to day operations as well as the operation maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment. The position provides instruction on use of equipment to students faculty and staff as well as works closely with faculty to provide technical academic and administrative support for instructional laboratory addition the Laboratory Supervisor will provide technical expertise to the Department of Civil of Engineering and the School of Engineering.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Engineering Engineering Technology or a related field.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in mechanical testing.

Applicants must meet stated minimum education and experience requirements.

Minimum Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency with computer systems and a variety of software applications.
  • Working knowledge of electronic data acquisition systems and servo-hydraulic control systems.
  • Ability to collect record and maintain data using appropriate systems equipment and techniques.
  • Working knowledge of general machine shop equipment including drill presses lathes milling machines band saws and various hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to design set up and execute sound experimental procedures.
  • Strong planning organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate detailed and organized records.
  • Demonstrated analytical reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional when addressing challenging situations or interactions.
  • Excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Representative Job Duties:

  1. Oversee the day-to-day operation of instructional laboratories in compliance with accreditation standards safety regulations and other applicable requirements. Maintain the security of laboratories and equipment and provide access to Teaching Assistants (TAs) and other authorized personnel.
  2. Train TAs faculty staff and students on the safe use of laboratory equipment and facilities. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures.
  3. Ensure equipment software and accessories are operational and performing to established standards. Install maintain and repair equipment and accessories; maintain adequate inventory levels; coordinate with vendors and suppliers; and provide input on equipment purchases and upgrades.
  4. Provide technical assistance to faculty TAs and students during instructional activities. Troubleshoot and repair equipment advise students on laboratory procedures and serve as a technical resource for the department and School of Engineering.
  5. Assist faculty in the development of instructional materials and experiments by providing technical expertise and feedback. Train TAs to facilitate laboratory experiments.
  6. Research identify and recommend new equipment and upgrades. Coordinate with vendors to arrange demonstrations deliveries and installations.
  7. Manage instructional laboratory facilities and physical spaces including coordinating maintenance and repairs and serving as the technical lead for renovations and relocations.
  8. Serve as the Laboratory Safety Officer and partner with Environmental Health and Safety to maintain a safe working environment. Actively participate on the School of Engineering Safety Committee.
  9. Support School of Engineering outreach initiatives through participation in open houses STEM presentations and laboratory tours for internal and external audiences.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Starting Salary/Rate:

Expected hiring range: $62354- $65000
