Laboratory Scientist E, Genomic Sequencing Unit

This position has the primary responsibility of performing molecular testing on samples from the state of Michigan using
Next Generation Sequencing (NGS). At the entry level this scientist position utilizes Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)
for bacterial fungal viral and parasitic pathogens of interest. This scientist utilizes hybrid capture amplicon
metagenomics and whole genome sequencing approaches to generate sequencing data. This sequencing technology is
used for epidemiological outbreak tracing of said pathogens necessary to keep the citizens of Michigan safe.

Education
Possession of a bachelors degree in chemistry biochemistry biology microbiology forensic science or a related pure or applied science.

Experience

Laboratory Scientist 9
No specific type or amount is required.

Laboratory Scientist 10
One year of professional experience carrying out a variety of tests analyses or production and research activities involving chemical biochemical and biological samples specimens and products equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist 9.

Laboratory Scientist P11
Two years of professional experience carrying out a variety of tests analyses or production and research activities involving chemical biochemical and biological samples specimens and products equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist including one year equivalent to a Laboratory Scientist 10.

The preferred and appointed candidate will be subject to pre-employment random post-accident reasonable suspicion return-to-duty and follow-up drug and/or alcohol testing.

Position Location/Remote Office: The physical location of this position is 3350 North Martin Luther King Jr. Lansing MI.

Employees will be provided computers to perform state work. Phones may also be provided for necessary communications. If working remotely employees will be responsible for providing other components of a remote office at their own expense including:

• A secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions.
• A high-speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
• Suitable lighting furniture and utilities.
