Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Laboratory Assistant you will contribute to the vital operations of our lab primarily within specimen processing/intake ensuring efficient and accurate handling of essential samples.

Every day you will assist with specimen management and clerical duties perform blood collection and specimen processing and potentially conduct waived or moderately complex testing as permitted by regulations and departmental needs.

To be successful in this role you will possess meticulous attention to detail strong organizational skills a collaborative spirit and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and safety within our laboratory environment.

  • Practices positive patient identification at all times in all job functions. Processes specimen into the lab organized for department distribution.
  • Moves processed samples quickly to laboratory departments for testing. Handles Laboratory Sendout testing.
  • Processes organizes packing lists and packaging for testing sent to external laboratories according to procedures. May perform phlebotomy.
  • Follows blood collection procedures performs venous and capillary punctures on all age groups of inpatient and outpatient populations including blood bank collections.
  • Utilizes appropriate collection techniques to obtain quality samples and adheres to appropriate volume requirements. Uses good judgment when problem solving and requests help when needed. Takes responsibility for the department workflow assists all members of the team to maintain department workflow and efficiency.
  • Creates an atmosphere by manner work and deed that fosters teamwork and collaboration.
Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D.
  • BLS-CPR within 90 days

Preferred

  • Lab Assistant Program certification
  • Phlebotomy program certificate
  • 6 months experience in an acute care facility

St. Elizabeth Hospital located in Fort Morgan Colorado is a Level 3 Trauma Center and an American College of Cardiology Accredited Chest Pain Center serving northeastern Colorado. Providing care through-out the region St. Elizabeth Hospital provides cardiology maternal emergency surgical pediatrics and acute care inpatient services in addition to the multitude of subspecialists in our specialty clinic. At 50 beds St. Elizabeth is the regions referral center serving a wide span of northeastern Colorado. Since 1952 St. Elizabeth has been serving the community in Morgan County which is one of the most diverse counties in Colorado speaking more than 28 languages.
