Job Summary
The Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care to women throughout labor delivery and the immediate postpartum period. The L&D RN monitors maternal and fetal well-being assists with vaginal and cesarean deliveries manages obstetric emergencies and collaborates closely with physicians midwives anesthesia providers and the neonatal care team.

Job Summary
The Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care to women throughout labor delivery and the immediate postpartum period. The L&D RN monitors maternal and fetal well-being assists with vaginal and cesarean deliveries manages obstetric emergencies and collaborates closely with physicians midwives anesthesia providers and the neonatal care team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients throughout labor delivery and postpartum recovery.
- Perform maternal assessments monitor vital signs and evaluate patient condition throughout the labor process.
- Continuously monitor fetal heart rate and uterine activity and recognize abnormal patterns requiring intervention.
- Assist physicians and midwives with vaginal operative and cesarean deliveries.
- Administer medications IV fluids oxytocin epidural-related medications and other treatments as ordered.
- Monitor patients receiving epidural or other forms of anesthesia and identify potential complications.
- Prepare patients and equipment for delivery and surgical procedures.
- Assist with induction and augmentation of labor according to established protocols.
- Provide care for patients experiencing high-risk pregnancies and obstetric complications.
- Recognize and respond promptly to obstetric emergencies including postpartum hemorrhage fetal distress eclampsia and shoulder dystocia.
- Assist with newborn stabilization and initial newborn care in collaboration with neonatal staff.
- Provide immediate postpartum assessment and monitoring of the mother and newborn.
- Support breastfeeding maternal-infant bonding and patient education.
- Maintain accurate documentation of maternal fetal delivery medication and postpartum care.
- Communicate effectively with physicians midwives anesthesia providers neonatal teams and other healthcare professionals.
- Follow infection-control patient-safety medication-administration and hospital policies.
- Participate in emergency drills quality-improvement initiatives and ongoing professional education.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Colorado state or Multistate license
- BLS certification required.
- ACLS certification required.
- NRP certification required.
- Previous Labor & Delivery experience strongly required.
- Experience with fetal monitoring labor management and obstetric emergencies.
- Strong knowledge of maternal and fetal assessment.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced high-acuity environment.
