Summary of Job Duties:
The Laboratory Support Technician II is responsible for receiving Immunohistochemistry orders and pulling corresponding material. They are responsible for delivery of slides to multiple locations in an accurate and timely fashion. They will help maintain QC on various pieces of laboratory equipment. They are responsible for helping maintain stock and keeping the laboratory clean. They may accession some patient specimens. They will assist the HTs/HTLs in the laboratory as needed. The LST II is capable of cross-training in adjacent laboratories within the Anatomical Pathology Department.

- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Two (2) years of clinical laboratory experience.

Job Requirements:
- Receive identify label and accession surgical biopsy and other tissue specimens according to established procedures.
- Assist with the preparation and processing of tissue specimens for histologic examination.
- Perform specimen grossing support activities as assigned and under appropriate supervision.
- Prepare tissue cassettes and ensure accurate patient and specimen identification.
- Operate and maintain equipment used for tissue processing embedding sectioning and staining.
- Assist with paraffin embedding and preparation of tissue blocks.
- Perform or assist with microtomy including cutting paraffin sections and preparing slides.
- Prepare and label slides for routine and special histologic procedures.
- Assist with routine and special stains according to laboratory protocols.
- Perform quality checks on slides blocks specimens and other materials to ensure accuracy and integrity.
- Maintain accurate records in the laboratory information system and other required documentation.
- Identify and report specimen discrepancies labeling errors inadequate specimens or equipment problems.
- Maintain adequate inventory of reagents supplies cassettes slides and other histology materials.
- Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and work areas according to established procedures.
- Properly handle formalin xylene reagents tissue specimens and other hazardous materials while following safety requirements.
- Follow OSHA CAP CLIA HIPAA infection-control and laboratory safety policies and procedures.
- Assist Histotechnologists and Pathologists with daily laboratory operations and special projects.
- Prioritize specimens and workload based on urgency and established laboratory procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and demonstrate professionalism when interacting with laboratory and clinical staff.
