Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of Laboratory Director(s) performs a wide variety of complex clinical laboratory tests and procedures according to established standards; maintains equipment and monitors quality control and instrument/test and verifies results
through an in-depth knowledge of techniques principles instrumentation and quality control teaching and education to laboratory personnel.


Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Performs clinical procedures by established protocols in order to provide accurate results
  • Provides quality Customer Service in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Responsible for Inventory Ordering and maintenance of adequate supplies
  • Ensures section procedures are current reviewed and approved at least annually by the
  • Laboratory Medical Director.
  • Effectively interacts with laboratory personnel and other section supervisors from all
  • departments to resolve routine issues.
  • Demonstrates appropriate use of the LIS system to complete assigned tasks.
  • Maintains a safe work environment in the laboratory by meeting all regulatory standards
  • Implements instrument maintenance procedures reviews instrument maintenance records per protocol and assists in the evaluation of new instruments
  • Ensures quality of laboratory testing by reviewing proficiency reports and recommending and implementing corrective action in collaboration with the Laboratory Medical Director
  • Responsible for personnel competency and performance review.
  • Provides orientation and education to laboratory personnel.
  • Performs instrument analysis and investigates new volume opportunities and new testing methodologies.
  • Updates and reviews quality control reports
  • Complies with all safety and related rules/regulations and adheres to all proficiency testing requirements per CMS and CAP.
  • Assumes responsibility for section activities.
  • Responsible to act as the liaison for the department section assigned for all regulatory inspections



Qualifications

Educational / Minimum requirements:
A Bachelors degree in chemical physical biological or clinical laboratory/medical technology science with at least five years experience with high complexity testing is addition to the education requirements above minimum of two years experience as a laboratory lead or
supervisor is preferred

State/Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements: MT/CT/HT (ASCP) or
equivalent preferred.

Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements:
General orientation at time of Control programs as mandated by Hospital.

Physical Requirements:
Walking standing sitting bending work under the stress of time constraints and heavy workload demands requiring requires ability to constantly lift light objects less than 20 lbs. perform moderately difficult manipulative skills arm-hand steadiness
and hand-eye coordination skills; walk stand and sit for prolonged periods; see objects closely and hear normal sounds with some background noises.

Work Environment:
Employee may frequently be exposed to blood body tissues and/or fluids chemical fumes and hazardous waste materials. Proper PPE is supplied by the employer.

Cognitive Requirements:
Position requires ability to concentrate on moderate detail with constant interruption and attend to tasks for more than 60 minutes at a must be able to understand and relate to the concept behind specific ideas and remember multiple tasks given to self and others over long
periods of time able to communicate verbally using advanced level vocabulary.
