Lab & Automation Engineer

Job Summary
Key Responsibilities
- Lab Infrastructure Management:Set up maintain and troubleshoot physical test racks bench equipment and prototype hardware units to ensure high uptime for testing.
- Automation Development:Develop and maintain automation scripts (Python Bash or similar) to interface with test hardware trigger test sequences and capture data for automated reporting.
- Linux Environment Maintenance:Manage and configure Linux-based test controllers and embedded devices including OS provisioning kernel updates and package management.
- CI/CV Pipeline Integration:Work with DevOps/Software teams to bridge the gap between physical lab hardware and our CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins GitLab CI) to enable automated hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.
- Data Acquisition:Implement scripts to automate data logging and telemetry collection from devices under test ensuring data is accurately pushed to our analysis platforms.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in electrical engineering Computer Science or equivalent technical field.
- 2 years of professional work experience in a related engineering field.
Eligibility Requirements
- The work location for this role is in Rochester NY (Relocation assistance provided if not already local).
Preferred Skills
- Strong experience with Linux/Unix command-line environments; ability to write shell scripts and manage services.
- Proven experience using Python (or equivalent) for hardware automation and test script development.
- Experience working with laboratory equipment (oscilloscopes power supplies multimeters) and embedded hardware debugging.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues across the full stackfrom hardware connectivity to OS-level drivers and software automation.
- Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g. Jenkins GitLab or GitHub Actions).
- Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration tools in a testing context.
- Experience with communication protocols (e.g. I2C SPI CAN UART Ethernet).
- Experience setting up and maintaining laboratory networks.
