Junior Stress Analyst P1 – Space Systems

**International travel may be required. Possible straight time overtime and a 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off) **

The Junior Stress Analystwill:

• Support structural analysis tasks supporting the our NASA/JSC customer in the Structures Branch
• Review and understand structural requirements on Flight Hardware Ground Support Equipment and Test Support Equipment
• Use stress analysis experience to perform classical hand calculations for stress analysis and determine Margins of Safety
• Create Finite element models using PATRAN FEMAP or more advanced solutions in MSC/MARC
• Apply loads and boundary conditions to Finite Element Models post-process results.
• Calculate Margins of Safety for parts and assemblies
• Prepare structural analysis reports
• Collaborate with other engineers to find resolutions to technical issues
• Assess parts and Assemblies for Fracture Control per NASA-STD-5019
• Assess Fastener/Joint assemblies per NASA-STD-5020
• Be familiar with NASA-STD-5001 NASA-STD-5005 and other relevant NASA standards
• Perform other duties as required.

• Typically requires a Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Aerospace) from an accredited engineering school with experience in the field or related area.
• Familiarity with desktop software applications MS Office is required.
• Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred

• Previous experience performing structural analysis on NASA spaceflight hardware
• Previous Experience using the Finite Elements Analysis Tools listed in the job description
• Previous Experience or familiarity with NASGRO.

Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.

Essential Functions

• Work Environment - Generally an office environment but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
• Physical Requirements - Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).
• Equipment and Machines - Standard office equipment (PC telephone printer etc.).
• Attendance - Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
