Description of Work
Hourly Range: $33.91 - $50.86This position may be eligible for hybrid remote work in accordance with state policy and the agencys remote work program but does require weekly onsite work.

We currently have an opening for a Junior DevOps Associate; this is a temporary supplemental position with North Carolina Department of Information Technology.
Key Responsibilities:
The Junior DevOps Associate will work alongside senior platform staff to support the development and maintenance of AWS-based cloud infrastructure for the Digital Solutions Drupal 10 platform and its associated web services. This is an entry-level role ideal for someone early in their career who is eager to grow in cloud infrastructure automation and DevOps practices.
Platform Maintenance:
Assisting with upkeep of web server operating systems (Ubuntu 22.04 Amazon Linux 2023) and supporting software (Apache PHP-FPM etc.) across production and test environments
Supporting maintenance of AWS services under the guidance of senior staff
Helping administer Digital Solutions URL redirection service including maintaining Apache configuration in GitHub coordinating with DIT networking on redirect requests and ensuring
Ensuring SSL certificates remain current
Platform Development:
Assisting with infrastructure configuration and database updates needed to provision and launch new sites on the Drupal 10 platform
Supporting CI/CD pipeline automation using GitHub Actions and self-hosted runners in EC2 for deploying release branches during approved maintenance windows
Contributing to infrastructure-as-code efforts using tools such as Terraform/OpenTofu Ansible and Packer
Learning to optimize server performance at the EC2 level by reviewing PHP-FPM and Apache configuration tracked in GitHub repositories
Participating in discussions around strategic improvements to the environment (security scalability performance) and assisting with patching and updating core Drupal and associated systems in an enterprise multi-site environment
Gaining exposure to containerized workloads and contributing to container-related projects as needed
About the Division:
The Digital Services team of the Department of Information Technology provides enterprise-level Drupal and associated web applications for State agency websites that enable both State employee and citizen interactions.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
The following Management Preferences are not required but applicants that possess these skills are preferred:
Foundational knowledge of Linux systems administration (Ubuntu Amazon Linux or similar)
Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly troubleshoot issues and ask effective questions
Scripting experience (Bash Python or similar)

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in computer science or an IT related field from an appropriately accredited institution
OR
Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in business application consulting or development
OR
High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience in business application consulting or development; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
