What is the Opportunity

Reporting to the Estimating Manager the Junior Estimator will be responsible for the generation of accurate and timely cost estimates for assigned projects. The Estimator will deliver properly organized estimates budgets and schedules while managing Aecons risk. The Junior Estimator will also be responsible for tracking project financial performance upon award.

What Youll Do Here:

• Responsible for the overall financial performance of projects documents specifications proposals addendums in preparation for pricing.
• Performs any estimate-related oral and/or written communications with clients.
• Reviews project sites prior to price input from Operations staff as appropriate.
• Performs quantity take-offs from construction drawings where pricing from suppliers and incorporates it into all costs for tender submissions including labour equipment materials rentals and for the accuracy and completeness of tender submissions.
• Oversees the distribution of appropriate documentation upon award of a on major projects as forecasts and reports weekly on the financial and operational performance of awarded projects and provides data for month-end reconciliations.
• Manages scope changes as invoicing and progress payment activities.
• Maintains files and correspondence on active and completed technical support to field staff.
• Collaborates with Operations to drive project success and learning.
• Drives estimating process and procedure compliance and consistency.
• Performs post-bid and post-project analysis and ensures associated learning and communication take place.
• Assists with RFPs and general contract tender submissions.
• Assists with prequalification submissions RFQs and RFIs as and complies with Aecons risk management policies and procedures.
• Drives positive relationships and serves as a key contact with clients consultants and key all forms of proprietary estimating data systems to ensure they are kept up to in the training of new estimating staff as appropriate.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as in the maintenance of estimating department policies procedures processes and standards.
• Collects data and reports on established business key performance indicators.

What You Bring to the Team:

• Diploma or Degree in Civil Construction or of 2 years of prior estimating experience in the utility sector.
• Ability to read and understand construction drawings and contract documents.
• Thorough knowledge of contract language terms and conditions bonding and related requirements.
• Good knowledge of job cost fundamentals and basic accounting and reporting principles is an asset.
• Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills.
• Strong computer skills including MS Excel Word Project P6 and estimating software.
• Strong communication skills both oral and to work accurately and effectively under pressure.
• Adaptable to a flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
• Valid drivers license and ability to travel as required.
