Journeyman Commercial Electrician

Location: New Orleans LA

Position Summary

B&D Contracting is seeking an experienced Commercial Electrician to join our team in the New Orleans Louisiana area. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of hands-on commercial electrical experience and be capable of working independently or as part of a crew on new construction renovations and commercial service projects.

This position requires installing maintaining troubleshooting and repairing commercial electrical systems while ensuring all work complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC) local codes and company safety standards. Candidates must be dependable safety-focused and able to work in a fast-paced construction environment.


Responsibilities

  • Install conduit (EMT RMC PVC and flexible conduit).
  • Pull terminate and test electrical wiring and cables.
  • Install electrical panels switchgear transformers lighting and control systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints electrical drawings and specifications.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems and repair equipment efficiently.
  • Install and connect motors disconnects breakers and controls.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on commercial electrical systems.
  • Ensure all work complies with NEC OSHA and local building codes.
  • Operate lifts ladders and electrical testing equipment safely.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors project managers and other trades.
  • Maintain clean and organized job sites.
  • Assist apprentices and help train less experienced electricians.


Must Haves

  • Minimum 5 years of commercial electrical experience.
  • Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Experience bending and installing conduit.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • Experience installing panels lighting and commercial electrical equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical issues independently.
  • Valid drivers license with reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in physically demanding environments.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends when required.
  • Must pass a drug screen and pre-employment background check.
  • Successful completion of Basic Plus Safety Orientation


Preferred Qualifications

Electrical License (or ability to obtain one)

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification.
  • NCCER Electrical Certification.
  • TWIC Card.
  • Basic Orientation Plus (BOP).
  • Experience operating scissor lifts and boom lifts.
  • Experience with commercial generators and backup power systems.
  • Experience with fire alarm or low-voltage systems.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification.


Physical Requirements

  • Frequently stand walk climb kneel crouch and bend throughout the workday.
  • Lift and carry materials weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Work from ladders scaffolding aerial lifts and elevated platforms.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Safely use hand tools power tools and electrical testing equipment.
  • Maintain visual acuity for identifying wiring colors and reading electrical diagrams.
