Job Summary

The John F. KennedyElementary School is seeking an exceptional and dynamic candidate to serve as theLibrary Aide beginning at the start of the 2026-2027 school year. JOB SUMMARY

The Library Aide will work30 hours per weekempowering students to become critical thinkers enthusiastic readers and ethical users of information. The library program is essential to learning and teaching and must be fully integrated into the curriculum and aligned to the School Improvement Plan to promote students achievement of learning goals and objectives.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise children during class visits to ensure a safe environment.
  • Read aloud to five classes each day encouraging student reflection engagement and participation throughout the experience.
  • Select and process appropriate books to add to the library collection ensuring they reflect the diversity of our student population and families.
  • Encourage students to read for understanding pleasure and the exploration of diverse viewpoints and genres.
  • Create a welcoming environment for elementary school children while teaching students how to effectively and responsibly use the library.
  • Support students in locating and accessing appropriate resources to assist with class assignments.
  • Collaborate support and share space with the Digital Learning Specialist.
  • Assist teachers in locating materials to support student projects and classroom instruction.
  • Maintain circulation and all material records using Follett Destiny library software.
  • Maintain the library catalog and update and weed materials periodically ensuring the collection is diverse current and aligned with grade level curriculum.
  • Help students check out materials inspect returned books for damage and send out over due notices for unreturned items.
  • Plan and advertise special library events such as book fairs and author visits.
  • Create promotional displays and materials such as thematic reading lists.
  • Manage library budget.

Perform other duties specifically articulated within the collective bargaining agreement as assigned by the building principal and/or District administration which includes 60 minutes of duties each week.

Work Year: 180 Days

Compensation: Per the Administrative Assistants Collective Bargaining Agreement
