Job Overview

The Principal Engineer Storage and Data Protection will provide senior-level engineering leadership for enterprise storage and data protection platforms. This role is focused on storage architecture data protection design cyber resiliency backup and recovery standards lifecycle management monitoring automation operational support and major platform enhancements.

This is a senior engineering role focused on platform standards automation lifecycle strategy and complex infrastructure delivery rather than day-to-day storage or backup administration. The Principal Engineer will help define the strategy roadmap standards and service model for storage and data protection infrastructure.

This role requires both solution design and hands-on implementation experience. The Principal Engineer will work across infrastructure cloud cyber resiliency application database network operations and project teams to deliver secure recoverable and supportable storage and data protection solutions.

This role reports directly to the infrastructure leadership team and may provide technical direction to indirect project resources. The position is based in either Palm Beach Gardens or Miami.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Lead the design engineering and implementation of enterprise storage and data protection solutions across on-premises and cloud environments.
• Act as the technical product owner for storage and data protection services including standards roadmap development lifecycle planning and platform improvement opportunities.
• Develop and maintain storage and backup standards reference architectures configuration baselines security standards recovery patterns and operational support models.
• Support Dell EMC enterprise storage platforms including Isilon PowerMax and Brocade SAN fabric.
• Support Rubrik as the primary enterprise data protection platform including backup policy design recovery workflows operational standards and platform improvements.
• Lead cyber resiliency engineering efforts related to immutable backups ransomware recovery recovery validation disaster recovery readiness and data protection controls.
• Define and implement automation for storage and data protection operations using Ansible REST APIs Terraform Git and CI/CD practices where applicable.
• Support cloud storage and data protection strategy across AWS and GCP including AWS FSx for NetApp ONTAP DDVE in AWS and cloud-native backup and recovery patterns.
• Define storage and backup lifecycle patching maintenance capacity and retention standards including cadence prioritization exception handling and coordination with operations teams.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting for storage SAN fabric backup recovery replication performance capacity availability and operational issues.
• Define standard storage and data protection patterns for enterprise workloads including performance capacity replication backup recovery security monitoring and support requirements.
• Define monitoring standards alerting requirements operational thresholds service catalog offerings knowledge management and CMDB standards for storage and data protection services.
• Partner with cyber resiliency cloud database application network infrastructure and operations teams on cross-functional projects recovery requirements and platform improvements.
• Participate in architecture reviews design reviews change planning and technical governance processes; create technical documentation implementation plans diagrams and executive-ready materials.
• Lead technical workstreams provide direction to indirect project resources and work with vendors or managed service providers to resolve complex issues and improve platform operations.

Required Skills and Experience

• 10 years of infrastructure engineering experience including 5 years of hands-on storage and/or data protection engineering in enterprise environments.
• Deep technical experience with enterprise storage backup recovery replication lifecycle management and operational support.
• Experience with Dell EMC enterprise storage platforms including Isilon or PowerScale PowerMax and related storage management tools.
• Experience with Brocade SAN fabric technologies zoning connectivity troubleshooting and operational support.
• Strong Rubrik experience including backup policy design recovery workflows operational support and platform management.
• Experience with cyber resiliency immutable backups ransomware recovery disaster recovery readiness recovery validation and backup compliance.
• Experience with storage performance analysis capacity planning replication snapshot management availability and workload placement.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code and automation patterns for storage or data protection operations using tools such as Ansible REST APIs Terraform Git and CI/CD practices.
• Experience with AWS and/or GCP storage services cloud backup patterns and hybrid cloud data protection models.
• Experience defining monitoring requirements alert thresholds operational metrics service catalog offerings knowledge management CMDB standards and related ServiceNow processes.
• Experience developing standards roadmaps documentation service models and operational procedures.
• Experience leading technical workstreams working with indirect project resources and communicating with technical teams stakeholders vendors and senior leadership.

• Experience with enterprise monitoring platforms and observability tools.
• Experience working in regulated or security-focused enterprise environments.

Education and Certifications

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology Engineering or a related field or equivalent work experience.
• Relevant storage backup cloud automation security or infrastructure certifications are preferred.
• Preferred certifications may include Dell Technologies Rubrik AWS Google Cloud NetApp Terraform Ansible ITIL security or related infrastructure certifications.
