Position Overview
The Network Engineer provides technical support implementation maintenance and documentation for enterprise network systems supporting the University of Kansas technology environment. Working closely with network architects senior engineers and IT leadership this position helps maintain reliable and scalable network services across the university.
The Network Engineer position supports the deployment troubleshooting lifecycle management and daily operation of enterprise network infrastructure including switching routing wireless firewalls network monitoring automation platforms and related services such as IP addressing VLANs DHCP DNS and campus connectivity. The position contributes to project implementation operational support documentation and continuous improvement efforts supporting enterprise network services.
This position is eligible for hybrid work arrangements and requires regular on-site work to support operational needs projects equipment installation maintenance and troubleshooting. The position participates in on-call rotation and may require work in network closets equipment rooms data centers and other campus in this role requires strong technical aptitude attention to detail effective communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Position Requirements
The incumbent must be able to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Monitor troubleshoot and resolve network incidents service requests and assigned project tasks.
- Support enterprise switching routing wireless firewall and related network services.
- Utilize monitoring tools to identify service issues and assist with problem resolution and corrective actions.
- Escalate issues requiring advanced engineering support and participate in response to service-impacting incidents.
- Assist with the installation configuration testing validation and maintenance of network hardware software and related infrastructure.
- Participate in network upgrades lifecycle replacements hardware refreshes scheduled maintenance activities and implementation of approved network standards and configuration baselines.
- Collaborate with team members customers vendors and technology partners to support infrastructure projects service improvements and completed change validation.
- Evaluate and test new tools technologies and operational improvements.
- Create and maintain documentation for network devices configurations procedures diagrams support processes and knowledge base articles.
- Maintain accurate ticket updates project records and work notes ensuring assigned work is tracked documented and communicated appropriately.
- Follow established incident change and escalation management processes and contribute to operational standards and repeatable support procedures.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with team members customers vendors and other IT organizations to support enterprise infrastructure services and projects.
- Participate in team meetings project discussions and technical planning activities providing timely updates on assigned work risks dependencies and project status.
- Foster productive working relationships through professional customer-focused interactions and collaboration with engineers and leadership.
- Identify opportunities to improve service reliability operational efficiency and network performance through automation monitoring standardization and process improvements.
- Continue developing technical knowledge and skills related to enterprise networking wireless technologies and infrastructure operations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned in support of KU Information Technology.

- High School diploma or GED and five years of relevant professional experience; OR Associates degree and three years of relevant professional experience; OR Bachelors degree and one year of relevant professional experience. Relevant experience may include enterprise networking infrastructure support systems administration telecommunications technical operations or related information technology environments.
- One year of experience installing configuring troubleshooting or supporting information technology infrastructure including network technologies such as switches routers wireless systems firewalls or related infrastructure.
- Effective communication skills as demonstrated through application materials.
- Experience supporting enterprise network infrastructure including switching routing wireless networking firewalls VPNs DNS DHCP IP address management or network access control technologies.
- Experience with Aruba Cisco Palo Alto Juniper or comparable enterprise networking platforms.
- Experience utilizing ticketing systems monitoring tools documentation platforms or IT service management processes.
- Experience participating in scheduled maintenance activities or formal change management processes.
- Experience with automation scripting Python or network orchestration tools.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot technical issues manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Relevant networking certifications such as Aruba Cisco Juniper Palo Alto or comparable certifications.
