Job Summary

Job Overview:

The Information Technology (IT) Director for the City of West Monroe provides key support regarding productively managing and coordinating all activities within the IT Department which include overseeing all IT operations and leading the IT staff.


Specific Tasks Duties & Responsibilities

  • Designs and implements IT strategies and infrastructure
  • Identifies and eliminates security risks
  • Analyzes business requirements for IT needs and systems
  • Works to increase user satisfaction
  • Evaluates IT operations regarding established goals
  • Communicates within IT team and across departments as needed
  • Assesses need for new equipment and software
  • Prepares progress and budget reports for upper management
  • Hires new members of IT staff
  • Builds and maintains relationships with outside vendors
  • Manages company help desk
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • All other duties as assigned


Worker Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in information technology information systems computer science or related field required (graduate degree a plus)
  • 8 years experience working in IT operations
  • 3 years experience overseeing IT teams and projects
  • Certifications and continuing education preferred
  • Sound understanding of computer systems networks security telecommunications databases and storage systems
  • Strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritize tasks and projects
  • Solid working knowledge of all relevant coding languages and security protocols
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Team oriented


Hours/Scheduling

  • This position is generally scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; however the IT Director is expected to work additional hours as necessary to meet operational needs which may include weekend and after-hours events.
  • The position requires availability to respond to after-hours calls emergency situations severe weather events service disruptions and other operational issues as required.
