The Opportunity

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking an Irrigation Specialist to join the Facilities Management team at our Daytona Beach Campus. This position plays a critical role in maintaining and improving the Universitys irrigation systems to ensure the health and appearance of campus landscapes. The Irrigation Specialist is responsible for the installation maintenance troubleshooting and repair of irrigation systems including low-voltage controls hydraulic components and related equipment. This position also supports water conservation efforts while helping maintain a safe and attractive campus environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install maintain troubleshoot and repair campus irrigation systems including low-voltage controllers valves piping and hydraulic components.

  • Schedule and perform irrigation operations to ensure proper watering of landscaped areas while minimizing water waste and preventing damage to University property.

  • Modify and expand existing irrigation systems and maintain accurate as-built drawings and system documentation.

  • Diagnose irrigation system issues and recommend and implement effective repairs and improvements.

  • Install and maintain pressure relief valves and other system components to ensure safe and efficient operation.

  • Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on irrigation equipment and systems.

  • Respond to emergency irrigation repairs and assist during severe weather or campus emergency operations as needed.

  • Maintain a safe work environment and perform other related duties as assigned.

Compensation


The hourly range for this role is$18.00- $19.00. The final offer will be based on the candidates skills qualifications and experience as well as applicable state regulations internal equity and business needs and may fall outside of the stated range.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Three (3) years of experience installing maintaining and repairing commercial irrigation systems.

  • Valid Florida drivers license with an acceptable driving record.

  • Working knowledge of irrigation systems including low-voltage controls hydraulic systems valves controllers and PVC pipe installation.

  • Ability to diagnose troubleshoot and repair irrigation equipment and related components.

  • Ability to operate hand tools power equipment and irrigation maintenance equipment safely.

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding work including lifting up to 25 pounds bending kneeling climbing and prolonged standing.

  • Strong communication problem-solving and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with commercial or institutional irrigation systems.

  • Experience reading irrigation plans or maintaining as-built drawings.

  • Experience with irrigation controllers water conservation practices and preventive maintenance programs.

Requirements to be able to drive a university vehicle:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida drivers some instances a valid Class C (CDL) license may be required.

  • Must meet the Universitys standards for approved drivers. Unacceptable driving records (as stated in the Use of Equipment and Vehicles Procedure 1.17) include the following (for three years from the date of each occurrence):

  • More than 3 moving violations and/or accidents in 3 years

  • More than 2 moving violations and/or accidents in any 1 year

  • A major conviction in the last 3 years including (but not limited to) driving while intoxicated leaving the scene of an accident reckless driving and/or homicide or assault by motor vehicle.
