SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Prevention Specialist works with Heartland Family Services Iowa Prevention Team to implement and carry out pieces of the Integrated Provider Network Prevention work plan. This person will also be involved in prevention efforts to Schools Law Enforcement Agencies Medical Personnel community members and Legislators building interest for participation and direct involvement in prevention activities and strategies. Decision-making skills and problem-solving capabilities are essential qualities.

Compensation: between $41300 and $52249 per year (determined by total years of relevant experience)
Work Schedule: 40 hours per week Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors Degree and two years experience working with youth
  • Ability to work with all ages (youth and adults) in diverse settings
  • Basic knowledge of Substance Abuse Prevention and/or Treatment
  • Experience networking in the community
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and time management capabilities
  • Valid drivers license / acceptable driving record

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • *Develop and foster community relationships to provide substance misuse prevention strategies to all sectors of the community
  • *Strong problem-solving skills necessary
  • *Ability to work independently assess a situation independently and take action to address it
  • *Public speaking skills required to provide presentations to groups of people of all ages
  • *Seek out and attend identified and non-identified community networking opportunities
  • *Plan and implement activities as required by grant work plan
  • *Excellent written and verbal communication skills needed to communicate information to various sectors of the community
  • *Work and communicate well with youth parents and professionals
  • * Strives to make connections between the agency and the larger community whenever possible
  • *Dependable and punctual regarding scheduling and attendance
  • *Comply with grant reporting and submission of paperwork as required by Funder under the supervision of the Prevention Director
  • *Apply SAMHSA Prevention Strategies and the Strategic Prevention Framework in various populations in communities served by the grant
  • *Develop and coordinate a system for data analysis of prevention activities
  • Cooperate and collaborate with program area staff volunteers and other agency staff
  • *Creates maintains and shares an appropriate and dynamic self-care plan.
  • Perform other program related duties as assigned
