High school diploma and at least 2 years of job-related experience. College or vocational training in Public Administration Public Relations Human Services Business Administration Criminal Justice or a related field preferred; 2 years of experience in case management preferred.

The Public Safety Division operates Montanas prisons safely and securely and provides supervision and support for offenders in the community through its Probation and Parole Bureau. This Interstate Compact Agent guided by the Department of Corrections mission plays a central role in managing the correctional population promoting public safety and determining the future of each felony offender.

  • The interstate compact agent cooperates with and solicits information from the public and criminal justice system

  • The agent supervises and counsels 500 to 700 offenders who have been convicted of a felony. Develops and submits interstate placement investigations at the request of probation/parole officers the Board of Pardons and Parole or Adult Probation and Parole facilities organizes.

  • The agent makes placement recommendations or sanctions/interventions recommendations concerning those offenders sentenced to the Department of Corrections or the prison. Agent uses skills knowledge of laws rules and regulations pertaining to probation parole incarceration rehabilitation and treatment programs and knowledge of behavioral science to determine placement.

  • The agent monitors probation and parole offenders inmates parolees and conditional release offenders and refers offenders to appropriate resources or programs using departments prescribed supervision standards knowledge of state and community resources and compact rules and procedures.

  • Agent performs related work as required.

  • Must have skills and abilities to equally balance social work and law enforcement duties.
