Job Summary

Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition subtraction multiplication & division & in reading & speaking common English vocabulary; valid drivers license; valid Commercial Drivers License required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by Section 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio Revised Code.

What we need:

We are seeking energetic passionate people who enjoy the outdoors and want to play a key role for the position of intermittent Natural Resources Technician 1 within theOffice of Coastal Management assigned toErie County. What you will do:

Education Assistant Duties: Assist with logistics design and implementation of estuary and coastal wetland education programs for the public professionals and students. Provide trail canoe and facility tours. Assist with volunteer coordination. Staff the visitor center answering public inquiries and orienting visitors to the Reserve. Provide live animal care including fish amphibians and reptiles. Other duties as assigned.

Preferred qualifications:

We are looking for individuals who are self-starters can succeed within a team setting and have strong public speaking and writing skills. Applicants would benefit from knowledge of environmental science and/or education natural resource management communications or a related field. An understanding of water safety and First Aid/CPR certifications is preferred.

Duration:

  • August through November 2026

Work hours and conditions:

  • Approximately 30 to 40 hours per week

  • This position requires significant weekend hours and some evening hours

  • This position is limited to 1000 hours in a fiscal year

Please note:

  • This intermittent position will remain at step 1 of the pay range

  • This intermittent position is not eligible for benefits (e.g. vision dental life health insurance holiday pay leave accruals vacation personal sick any other paid leave shift differential pay supplements etc.)

This is a 1000-hour intermittent (unclassified) position for the Office of Coastal Management. The location for this position is:

  • Old Woman Creek National Estuarine Research Reserve
