Description
The Department of Music at Austin Peay State University invites applications for a nine-month Instructor of Music Therapy. This non-tenure-track appointment is a three-year term starting July 30 2027.

The Department of Music at Austin Peay State University an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music enjoys a vital presence on campus in the Clarksville community and in the region. The Department boasts a nationally recognized and acoustically superior concert hall along with outstanding performance practice rehearsal and studio spaces. The Department of Music is an integral member of the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts (CECA A long-established state-funded initiative CECA is designed to enhance the cultural environment of the university community and region through a diverse range of imaginative arts experiences.

The following degrees are offered: Bachelor of Music with concentrations in Performance Music Education Composition and Music Therapy; Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Music; Master of Music with concentrations in Music Education Performance Collaborative Piano Instrumental Conducting and Choral Conducting.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate classes in the music therapy curriculum.
  • Engage in professional creative and scholarly activities.
  • Work with other departments across campus and with area musicians and music therapists.
  • Actively participate in professional organizations allied to music therapy and individual research interests.
  • Participate in recruiting activities alone and in group settings.

Serve as the clinical education coordinator ensuring all students complete necessary clearances foster relationships with community partners and build relationships for future collaborations

Physical Requirements

Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects.

Required Minimum Qualifications

- Masters degree in music therapy or related discipline
- Board-Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) with at least two years of clinical experience
- A commitment to the recruiting efforts of the department college and university.
- Potential for a substantial creative/research/professional agenda.
- Demonstrated aptitude for classroom teaching and personal concern for students and their achievement.

Preferred:
- Facility with and understanding of current technologies as they pertain to teaching and supervising music therapy students.
- Documented experience in leading and supervising student clinical placements.
- Demonstrated success teaching students of wide-ranging and non-traditional backgrounds at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
