ABOUT THE POSITION AND THE MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT AT NORMANDALE

The members of the Mathematics Department are committed to providing a solid foundation in mathematics to students of all backgrounds. We believe in supporting a quality education experience that provides learning opportunities for our diverse student body. Our curriculum offers courses that prepare students for completion of the Mathematics Transfer Pathway degree other degree programs and for transfer. We value a diversity of approaches and backgrounds in our faculty members. The Mathematics Department encourages a participatory and democratic faculty culture and affirms the engaged role our faculty have played in service to the college.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Teach in an inclusive student-ready and culturally responsive manner to meet the needs of our diverse student body.

• Teach a broad spectrum of Mathematics courses in day evening and alternate schedule formats utilizing online face to face and hybrid delivery formats.

• Work as a team member in maintaining a student-ready learning environment that meets the educational needs of a diverse student body.

• Contribute to department division and college goals which provide the basis for program planning implementation evaluation and support.

• Engage in scholarly activities consistent with the colleges goals

• Be committed to the success and retention of underrepresented students

• Demonstrate knowledge of and experience in assessment of student learning outcomes.

• Participate in the development and improvement of curricula and courses.

• Participate in faculty and department meetings and College-wide committees.

Minimum Qualifications

• Masters degree with a major in mathematics OR a Masters degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credits (27 graduate quarter credits) in mathematics.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ph.D. degree in Mathematics

• Experience serving diverse and underserved populations

• Experience teaching in a community college setting

• Experience as primary instructor teaching college mathematics

• Experience teaching non-majors Statistics College Algebra Liberal Arts Math Math for Elementary Education courses

• Experience teaching core lower-division STEM mathematics courses: Calculus I - III; differential equations; linear algebra

• Experience using Open Educational Resources (OERs)

• Experience in online learning and in course delivery using web-based course management systems such as D2L

• Experience in innovative teaching and learning approaches

• Experience in assessment of student learning outcomes

• Experience participating in program review assessment or continuous improvement processes.

• Experience providing specific strategies to create a sense of belonging within the classroom

• Experience teaching courses with innovative teaching practices to support the success and retention of underrepresented students including students of color first-generation students and Pell eligible students

• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• Evidence of continuous professional development related to diversity equity and inclusion

• Demonstrated commitment to participating in campus activities and professional development
