Responsibilities

New York Institute of Technologys Old Westbury campus seeks an Instruction & Scholarly Communications Librarian I for a newly revised position. The Librarian I will develop and promote scholarly communication services and initiatives and provide instruction reference assistance guidance and support to students and faculty in effectively accessing and using information resources. This position reports to the Director of Public & Technical Services.

Responsibilities include:

Provide information literacy instruction based on pedagogy and best practices in information literacy.
Create tutorials assessment and content for the library website as well as maintain/troubleshoot these learning tools.
Develop marketing and outreach initiatives that promote scholarly communication services.
Serve as the embedded librarian for undergraduate programs providing research consultations course-integrated instruction and tailored support.
Contribute to the development management and promotion of the universitys institutional repository.
Provide research consultations to users both in person and virtually.
Deliver workshops for faculty and students on scholarly communication topics including open access author rights open educational resources and research metrics.
Contribute to collection development by identifying and selecting relevant resources based on user needs and emerging trends.
Serve as liaison to academic departments and research units as assigned.
Participate in library & college committee responsibilities.

Qualifications

Masters degree in library/information science from an ALA accredited institution.
1-3 years of relevant academic library experience.
Excellent communication skills both oral and written with the ability to foster positive working relationships and build partnerships.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Effective time organizational and project management skills.
Experience providing research support instruction or consultation services.
Knowledge of scholarly publishing copyright open access and scholarly communication issues in higher education.
Demonstrates an understanding of issues and trends in reference and information literacy. Stays abreast of emerging trends and technologies in the field of library and information science.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity equity inclusion accessibility and user-centered service.
