The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. POSITION DUTIES

The Inmate Affairs Specialist is responsible forinmate correspondence and inquiries on behalf of the: Governor; SecretaryDeputy Secretary for Operations Deputy Secretary for Administration;Commissioner of Correction Commissioner of Pretrial Detention and Services;Deputy Commissioner of Correction Deputy Commissioner of Pretrial and DetentionServices; Assistant Commissioners of Correction; elected officials; and interdepartmentaland outside agencies as it related to those in custody in Maryland state correctionalfacilities.

This positions primary focus will be to conductresearch draft correspondence letters and/or other written materials. Strongwriting editing and organizational skills are necessary. This position willreceive a large volume of constituent correspondence on a wide range ofdepartmental issues.

This position will primarily handle complaintsand concerns from inmates inmates families and other constituents concerningconditions of confinement. The incumbent will also be responsible for providingand monitoring confidential case data on complaints that support programimprovement needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:Graduationfrom an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalencycertificate.

Experience: Three years ofadministrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year upto two years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute thepossession of a Bachelors degree from a college or university forthe required experience.

3. Candidates maysubstitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissionedofficer involving staff work that included the regular use of independentjudgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrativeplans policies rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs orprocedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis forthe required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience providing direct support to a Director and or executive leadership.
  • Experience reviewing tracking and responding to inquiries from Incarcerated Individuals and their families.

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.

Personal Leave - new Stateemployees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on startdate)

Annual Leave - ten (10) days of accumulatedannual leave per year
Sick Leave - fifteen (15) daysof accumulated sick leave per year
