OVERVIEW:
The Department of Administrative and Financial Services (DAFS) Office of Information Technology (MaineIT) provides information technology support to over 13000 employees. MaineIT oversees large scale enterprise applications that support the critical and diverse business needs of the State of Maine and its agencies.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
This is technical services work in an integrated computer network environment. An employee in this classification performs a full range of system administration functions requiring a technical computer support background. Responsibilities include installing and configuring network devices; diagnosing and resolving communications hardware and operating system problems; implementing and monitoring system security procedures; advising agency management on systems development and conducting user training and product demonstrations. Supervision may be exercised over lower-level technical personnel. Work is performed under limited supervision.
REPRESENTATIVETASKS:
- Performs a full range of system administration functions in order to control systems and attain maximum utilization and efficiency.
- Provides full user support for agencys standard application software in order to meet user/agency needs.
- Conducts training in order to develop agency personnel skills in the operations and capabilities of applications and systems.
- Implements system security measures such as backups access control system accounting and disaster recovery in order to maintain system integrity and availability.
- Determines how to attach devices to the LAN; configures devices to use the LAN for applications; and maintains LAN documentation in order to establish and maintain agency LANs.
- Installs and configures internal hardware components such as memory disk and tape drives in multi-user PCs/servers in order to maintain or enhance system operation and capabilities.
- Researches recommends installs and tests hardware software and network configurations for PCs and/or servers in order to provide an information system which effectively meets agency needs.
- Performs troubleshooting and fault isolation on PCs servers LANs or related system components in simple configurations in order to maintain system availability.
- Tests and evaluates software and hardware products in order to determine applicability and value to agency operations.

- Knowledge of local area networks based on PCs and/or servers.
- Knowledge of operating systems on PCs and servers. Knowledge of research techniques.
- Knowledge of computer application design.
- Knowledge of computer hardware and software.
- Knowledge of proper computer system data security/backup procedures.
- Knowledge of agency procedures and standards.
- Ability to install computer hardware and software.
- Ability to load and optimize utilization of advanced computer software and operating systems.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot computer system problems.
- Ability to conduct training on computer system operation and software.
- Ability to consult with agency staff and managers on best usage of a computer system.
- Ability to perform work requiring lifting and/or physical exertion may be required.
MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS:
A high school diploma or general equivalency AND demonstrated experience in end user IT support.
