Job Summary
The Infection Preventionist 2 is responsible for implementing and monitoring infection control protocols within the hospital to ensure patient and staff safety. This role conducts surveillance of healthcare-associated infections analyzes data and educates staff on best practices for preventing the spread of infectious diseases. The position also collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop strategies for continuous improvement in infection prevention.
Responsibilities
- Data Analysis & Reporting 25%
- Utilizes CDC/NHSN guidelines and definitions of healthcare acquired infections
Development of reports and graphs analysis of data for trends and presentation at appropriate committees.
- Education & Training Staff 25%
- Provides education to patients team members visitors families physicians and community regarding infection prevention practices to improve.
- Participates in development of educational programs patient safety and preventing/reducing infections risks.
- Presents infection prevention material at hospital orientation unit-based meetings and annual education fairs.
- Assists Employee Health as needed.
- Performs as a consultant on infection risk assessments prevention and control strategies providing education and training and implementation of isolation protocols.
- Serves as a preceptor to newly hired Infection Preventionists.
- Policies and Procedures 25%
- Reviews and researches policies and procedures annually to ensure current evidence-based practices are utilized.
- Participates with the education of staff for any changes in procedures or policies aimed at preventing infection.
Implement any new protocols policies and procedures with collaboration from nursing leadership.
- Compliance & Regulatory 20%
- Informs the appropriate organizations of any reportable diseases.
- Acts as a liaison with hospital and medical staff patients and families.
- Other Duties as Assigned 5%
- Evaluation of products and procedures aimed at improving patient care and/or reducing infections.
- Serves as active committee member on specific hospital committees.
Qualifications
Experience: 4 years clinical experience
Education: Bachelors Degree in a relevant field. Medicine (Doctor) Nursing Public Health Biology Epidemiology or Laboratory Medical Technology.
Certification: CIC (Certified in Infection Control - can obtain within 1 year of hire)
